USFS Ticketing on Bald Rock - help needed

Post by Josephine »

It has come to our attention that the USFS is ticketing vehicles on Bald Rock Rd. They own land on either side of the county road if you drive between Drive By and Solar Collector. The FS declared that the county is no longer maintaining the road and therefore they have authorization to ticket vehicles for "unauthorized use of the road." The county is currently disputing this since the county maintains the road each year.

IF YOU ARE TICKETED PLEASE CONTACT DEDRA BRANDENBURG at info@ heart of the kentucky river .com. She is working with the county to collect the information of those who have been ticketed in order to file a dispute. This only applies to licensed vehicles (not 4-wheelers).

The ticket is $140 and it seems that they're hoping to ticket out of towners who don't know that they're on a county road and just pay the ticket without a dispute.

good to know. interesting because during last year's rocktoberfest, which was also during the government shutdown, i got ticketed by the FS for parking off sky bridge road. contesting it was worth the effort.
training is for people who care, i have a job.

So we could get ticketed for driving on any of the myriad other forest service roads that are in the DBNF but aren't closed?

Are they ticketing oil trucks that go through there?

That's crazy! There are residents who live in that section of road.

There's a house near the mouth of Cave Fork. It would have to be downstream of that to the mouth of Bald Rock and upward on Bald Rock Fork.

Has anyone found documentation on the USDA page? They would have to document it publicly somewhere or they wouldn't have a leg to stand on.

Regardless, this is just more of the same fascist garbage they've come to known for in the region.

Nothing here: http://www.fs.usda.gov/alerts/dbnf/alerts-notices

I was there in January and there was no signage.

I don't think they could legally do that unless they let the public in on the joke.

Reportedly they've also recently (last fall) closed Little Sinking Road with gates.

Yes, the FS did close one side of Little Sinking Creek, with a large Yellow gate. But they forgot that there was private property, which was accessed on that road behind the gate, and so they had to remove it.
Another waste of our tax dollars.
For those who don't know Little Sinking is close to where the FS was planning on closing Sand Lick Road (an extension of the Narrows) but the county has been fighting to keep it open.

So now the FS is gonna decide that they "own" Bald Rock Road !! (and by extension Cave fork and Virginia Ridge) What a power/money/land grab.
