Bolt testing aside, that is possibly the BEST disclaimer I have ever read, Rick!!

Re: Glue-in bolt testing
I guess I have to throw all my anchors and bolts away. I have always known that glue-ins were much safer, and I used glue-ins on the first route I bolted by myself, but they are more expensive. I guess I will just have to fork out the funds. Nice work on the testing, Ric. This is the kind of scientific testing that needs to be presented more often to the public. I appreciate the help.

Re: Glue-in bolt testing
hey whatahutch- you can throw your junk bolts in a box and mail them to me- i like junk gear- anchors as well... nice to see some testing done but all hardware is really as good as the installer/developer is who puts it in
Re: Glue-in bolt testing
that's awesome. thanks for the info
How you compare may not be as important as to whom you are compared
Re: Glue-in bolt testing
I know the glue ins are better, but I still wonder about the adhesive. What if someone installed them with their kids paper paste? Ha. What is the life expectancy of the glue. Probably as long as the bolts I guess. Still, I can always put a wrench on the bolts and get a feel for whether they are solid. With a glue in, I feel like I am totally trusting the original installation. lucky for me I can't do any roofs, so maybe they will hold a shear force fall at least.
Re: Glue-in bolt testing
Not entirely true... after 10-20 years of corrosion you can typically no longer tighten down a spinning 5-piece plated bolt. In fact, attempting to do so risks shearing off the hex head (or rust-fused nut with older wedge-style bolts).
