That makes sense. I have never wanted more friction belaying or rappelling with the normal munter, so I have never tried the "super".

We use it a lot when lowering 2 people or a super skinny rope. The regular munter provides more friction than any other non-break-assisted belay device making it a great choice for holding power.

Update: SMC is developing a belay device with different way to lower. It looks like it might replace my ATC Guide. http://alpineinstitute.blogspot.com/201 ... spire.html

Haven't been able to find it for sale anywhere yet.

It is impossible to completely equalize. You should typically know the direction of force and therefore negates any reason to have a multi-directional anchor. The ATC is what we used in the 80s. We now have smart phones, fried snickers bars and plaquette belay devices.
