I don't know if you people have heard of him, but he was the man!

RIP
Layton Kor RIP
Layton Kor RIP
I don't have haters, I have fans in denial.
Re: Layton Kor RIP
He was "the great one" for sure. I'll never forget how cool it was to discover his initials faintly tapped into the rock high on Outer Space on the Bastille. Tracing those initials with my fingertip was something I won't forget.
Re: Layton Kor RIP
wow, I must have missed that when I did outer space, glad that particular habit never caught on.
Re: Layton Kor RIP
As far as I'm concerned, Kor gets a pass for the initials. In fact, I'm glad he did it, an historic relic if you will. Funny how easy it is to miss them though, especially since they're right there in the wall at a standing belay. They were obviously done with a drill and hammer, just shallow pits forming his initials. Yeah, it would suck if people did it today, though it wouldn't even be close to as F'd up as putting bolts in right next to a crack. Now that really sucks. Somewhere in the RRG some jerk with the same name as me carved his whole name into the rock. Somebody, I can't remember who, posted a picture, assuming that I did it.
Re: Layton Kor RIP
Is LK Day actually your initials or an homage to Layton Kor?
Re: Layton Kor RIP
I would be proud to have been named after Layton, but since he was only twelve when I was born, my parents would have to have been prescient indeed. Something weird though, he died on my birthday, April 21st.

I might have seen this rock.. Across the valley from Indian Staircase by what is called the Ohm dome. Cool little rock with a nice backrest to sit and chill.. On the backrest is carved Larry Day 81 I could be wrong about the date
Rebolting the RED one stainless steel glue in bolt at a time!!
Re: Layton Kor RIP
That's the one. An online white pages says there are 18 people named Larry Day living in Kentucky. I'm not one of them and I wasn't one of them in '81. I wish somebody would remove it. I hate to think of how many climbers think I'd do something as stupid as carve my name in the rock because of what some dumb ass did.
Re: Layton Kor RIP
According to "Great 'Un" though, it may still have been cool back in 1981...
