[there have been a number of comments referencing 'negative' attitudes, for any part i've had in this i'd like to be aware of specific instances of this so please cite your concerns]Meadows wrote:Thank you for this comment, C2C. If Muir needs any more bridges or culverts please pm me first. I sell and design pipes, culverts and bridges and KY is one of my states. I could contribute this way and have a much bigger impact than just a few dollars here and there.
Re: Nice Outside Online arcticle on Muir Valley
I know nothing about law... especially Kentucky Recreational Use stuff... maybe some of you all can help me out. Why can't Muir charge $5 per visitor per day... or hell, even $5 per car load per day... I don't know exactly, but I feel that this would help them to procure the annual funds that they need for upkeep. Like LRC in Chattanooga, they charge $5 per day to go bouldering on their golf course... couldn't Muir do something similar? Dustin, you mentioned something similar earlier in the thread about charging for parking. Or maybe it's not a law thing... maybe it's a Muir Valley Vision thing... I don't know... I'm just trying to get this straight in my head.
I certainly don't think that $5 per car load (or even $5 per head) would stop the masses from going to Muir Valley. It certainly doesn't stop the masses from bouldering at LRC. On a good winter day, the LRC parking lot will be packed full of climber vehicles... chances are good on a day like that you won't even see a single person golfing, yet, like I said, the parking lot is packed with climbers!

We give a monthly $15 recurring payment to Muir and haven't climbed there in at least two years because of the no dogs rule. I view it as a climbing tax, of sorts, and even though we don't climb at Muir we frequent the Red so we are not exempt from this tax. That said, we have only been setup like this for just over a year because we never thought about it this way. I hope more folks consider this viewpoint and sign up today.

"Status of Muir Valley's Roads:
Muir Valley’s springtime road maintenance is almost finished with the last batch of gravel - 162 tons of it - being spread and graded out today on the 1/2-mile entrance road. Many visitors are not aware that this last 1/2 mile of road approaching Muir Valley was built and is maintained by Muir’s owners. All of the Valley’s 3.2 miles of roadway, including the 2-mile emergency road, have been upgraded and improved and are in excellent condition."
