What does it cost to cover one of those roads with gravel? Just curios about the cost of rocks. I have always wondered.

i think what the gentleman wanted to know was, if he is paying to help ensure access and upkeep then what % goes to that. i go to the valley once in a while and drop donations when i visit. been to trail days as well and i have no qualms with that in the least. i am more than happy to help access and upkeep through work and donations. as nice or convienient as it may be, i have no use for a picnic shelter, route tags, and some of the other fluff. the land, some of the trails, and yes the road access for EMS (that also gets used by folks lucky enough to have a floor pass) is fine and dandy and i'm fine to help with that. expecting to pay for all the bells and whistles.....that's where some folks may have a gripe. especially when more of that goes in and then you still tell me you need more. what do you think the bill for PMRP and other spots would be if that was the way they went?? i'm there to climb and enjoy the outdoor spectacle not have ice cream and talk about my feelings.

Shelter = free donation by the Webers. Route tags cost pennies per route and would be lost in rounding to the nearest tenth of a percent if you took them out.

There is just not much "fluff" that you talk about. Maintaining the property and good access is just damn expensive.

I'm pretty sure it's expensive. Using a quick calculation it may cost about $7,000 to cover gravel, plus whatever else the heavy machines cost. But I'm sure they just apply it to the spots where its needed most, so who knows.

When you expect 40,000 visitors in a year, you can't really ignore the roads. Or if you do, you end up with PMRP-style ruts; lakes where the road should be. Probably a wise thing for the long-term.

The beautiful thing about climbing on the land but not owning it is that we don't have to worry about where the money goes! And to ask about it and second-guess the landowners and FOMV is kind of a waste of energy in my opinion (unless you are excited to get more involved with FOMV and start coming to meetings etc.). The landowners make the rules as to how they want the land managed and as a user group, we don't need to question it, nor is it even appropriate--it's just supply and demand. With 30,000 visitor-days last year, that works out to $2 per visit to keep the place open to climbing. Question is, are we as a user group willing and able to meet that price? Where the money goes or doesn't go is not our concern, but getting those 200 pennies to the table definitely is.

They just need an ATM in the garage that only dispenses $10's. Or maybe a credit card reader on the donation box so Alice and Bob climber can just swipe their parents cc on the way in.

i'm trying to ignore all he mixed signals; a itemized budget has been offered for this spring, i'll give it a chance.

for consideration: if the rrgcc has allotted $10,000 for road maintenance this year (labor, machine rental/hours, material/gravel)... one possibility i'd like to be able to explore is the acquisition of a tractor/backhoe which could be shared. or, as a proprietary investment of the financial futures subsidiary of the rrgcc...,

i don't care where the money goes or what they spend it on. hell hopefully they have some left over for cold beer and blow. asking me to help fund a valley road i don't get to use and aren't tearing up....eh. now when EMS shows up for me, sure great. threating to close due to donation lack.....see below.

this statement sends a mixed message. donations pay for the things that aren't access, (argue the trails if you want) but to ensure continued access.
