Very nice article... anyone who has ever climbed in Muir Valley (or anyone that ever plans to climb in Muir Valley) should read this article.

Where is the $60k a year going? It's been asked over and over and over again, but no one really knows.

If I donate today - will Muir be open tomorrow? Once again, the question keeps coming up and there are no clear answers.

It seems to me that article is saying in essence "Muir Valley is a monster we've created and we don't know how to sustain it so unless someone else comes along to do it, MV will go the way of Pocket Wall"

We are hoping to have public figures for this spring. In the mean time you can contact Roger Vandamme by phone at 317-525-3015 or email at: fomv.chairman@gmail.com. The budget is justified and that doesn't include all the expenses that the Webers are picking up. For example, did you know that the gravel road from the start where you turn off the paved road is maintained by Muir Valley. That is just one example. There are many more examples that justify this expense. Think about the access to Muir vs Sore Heel or Coal Bank Hollow on a yearly basis. Do you ever have a problem getting your Toyota Corolla to the parking lot at Muir? How about that emergency road to the valley floor that allows ambulances access? Toilets at the parking lot and planned ones for the valley floor this year. Equipment to purchase and maintain. Paid labor to clear trails and repair roads. Etc, etc..

Like I said, this has been identified as something of value for the public and working toward transparently sharing this info. I am working on a sub committee for fundraising. However, my comments do not represent the BOD for FoMV and you can talk to them directly if you wish.

who cares where the $ goes ? Some nice people are letting you climb for a small donation on their land. They can do whatever they want with the $, it's none of your business whatsoever. Please tell us how you can't afford $5 to go climbing for the day.

Typical entitled climber mentality... spend hundreds of bucks in gas to get to the crag and back every weekend, but can always find some justification to avoid dropping a few bills in the box to support the places they climb.

well, Lateralus, i do. and, not that i have access to the numbers to make clear, but concerns about expenses would seem to have helped reduced the annual overhead from over $80,000 to close to $60,000....according to the article.

Last year we had 13 sustainable donors. That is people that set up a recurring donation of at least $5. Of that 13, 4 of them were me or my friends that I recruited last year. I want to get 100 people this year. I can tell you this with certainty.... if the community can't show that they are willing to financially and operationally support Muir Valley now, it will not be a climbing venue in the future. That is not a threat, just a reality.
