Reynauds/Poor Circulation

Post by rich »

I think I may have Reynauds because my hands and toes are constantly cold no matter how much I try to keep them warm, especially when climbing or before climbing. I stay away from caffeine when I know I'm going to be in a cold environment- which is all the time in winter. It takes me a long time to get my hands/feet warm when I'm in the cold gym/outside.
Anyone else experience this or have good tips for keeping hands/feet warm for the coming winter months?

Is there differential coloration in your extremities? Nail disorders? If not, you probably just have cold hands and feet.

Well, not really. I just hate having cold hands and feet. Why can't I have better circulation?!

Dress warmer. Keep your core, head, and neck warm, and the peripheral arteries are more likely to remain dilated. Use good gloves and hand warmers.

Keep the core warm and the extemities will follow.

You could always try the Arctic trick. Put a couple hand warmers over your heart area. They sell belts to hold them in place. This will trick your system to pump blood to your extemities to cool it off the blood.
It would take something like the Giant Jon E GI hand warmer to do this trick. Don't buy one of those zippo hand warmers (junk).

I picked up an old pair of wool mittens and using those so far has worked out much better than fancy schmansy gloves. Old school prevails.
