Out of towners
Re: Out of towners
if you're at the crowded crag you are part of the crowd crag and can't really bitch about the numbers. behavior is a different story and it only takes one person behaving like an unaware asshole to make a cliff feel overcrowded. even the most crowded days can be pleasant so long as everyone is aware of their surroundings. one thing that i bitch a lot about is when folks visit the red (or anywhere for that matter) and try to force their usual experience (music, tick marks, yelling, fixed gear assumptions, acceptable group #, anything really) from their home crag onto wherever they are at without trying to get a feel for what the scene is like and what behavior is expected. whenever i travel to other crags i try to keep as low a profile as possible and feel out how the locals (a dangerous word w/o a definition in my opinion) get down at their cliff and assimilate accordingly. it's only respectful. i'll say that so far this year the crowds that i've encountered have been great about this and every weekend day has been awesome so far. for whatever reason the douchbaginess has been way less prevalent this season in my experience.

I do not think people at the Red are that unfriendly at all after visiting the Gunks and Rumney. Those New Yorkers are complete ass holes.
