Rocktoberfest Clinics Sneek Peak!

Post by Josephine »

We have some great clinics this year taught by a mix of Professional Athletes from all over the country and some of our best local talent. I'm super excited to announce our clinic offerings for this year's Rocktoberfests. While registration is not open (yet), be thinking of which one you'd like to try. Clinics fill up fast.

This year the clinics will be on Sunday, October 7th from 9:30 - 3:30. They are $30/person. That's paying $5/hour for some great quality instruction to help your climbing get to a whole new level! The classes are capped at 10 people per class to ensure everyone gets ample opportunity to participate. The athletes, guides, and volunteers donate their time and all the money goes directly to the RRGCC :-)

Advanced Climbing taught by Kris Hampton
Held at Torrent Falls and for advanced climbers. (You should be comfortable climbing 5.10-5.12)
Are you stuck at climbing 5.10, 5.11 or 5.12 and looking to push your limits and break the next grade? Kris Hampton from The Power Company will share with you the habits he's learned from some of the best climbers in the world. Not only how to train to push past your plateau, but how to structure your climbing day, how to approach hard redpoints, and the mental space needed to climb to your potential.

SOLD OUT Sport and Redpointing by Kevin Wilkenson & Alli Rainey
Held at the Curbside and for Beginning and Intermediate climbers
Climbing 5.9 and wanting to improve? This clinic will teach you how to move beyond the plateau. Kevin and Alli will explain the art of choosing a project, how to train for the project, how to safely catch a fall, and more!

Burl Like A Girl by–Audrey Sniezek - FOUR SPOTS LEFT
Held at Torrent - Intermediate climbers (you should be comfortable top ropping 10b)
In this clinic Audrey Sniezek will teach you to climb powerfully from a female prospective. (That does not mean you need to be female to participate) You'll come away feeling more comfortable with working challenging routes. You’ll learn how to develop powerful climbing techniques suited for the Red River Gorge and beyond.

ONLY 2 SPOTS LEFT - Intro To Trad by Shingo Ohkawa
Held at Global Village - for beginning and intermediate climbers
This course gives you the skills to start working through safely leading a traditional climb. In this course, you will learn:
- How to place cams and nuts appropriately as both pieces for a lead, as well as for part of an anchor system.
- How to build traditional anchors.
- How to rack your equipment appropriately for a lead.
- How to manage stress while placing gear.
- How to assess the risk of “running it out” vs. “getting a piece.”
- How to manage a belay station.
- ow to transition from a lead into a rappel.

SOLD OUT Multipitch Efficiency by Brittany Griffith
Held at Torrent (Ground school #2) - for beginning and intermediate climbers
This is your chance to learn muti-pitch systems with a focus on equipment, route-finding, belaying, safety, and speed. Multi-pitch systems can be incredibly complex, and the best way to refine your skills is to examine each part of the system by itself. In this course, we will do just this: look at every element of your system and help you to make it better. On this course, we do not climb a multi-pitch route, but use a ground school to practice the specific systems required to climb a multi-pitch route effectively. Once you have completed this course, you will be able to take the skills learned in this setting and apply them to long multi-pitch climbs. In this course, you will learn:
- How to set-up an anchor effectively for a multi-pitch climb.
- How to use an autoblocking device appropriately.
- How to strategize a multi-pitch climb using either the “lead-swapping” technique or the “block-pitches” technique.
- Where to put your second in order to make an effective and quick transition.
- Tricks for speed transitions. ? How to read and interpret a multi-pitch topo.
- How to strategize for a long day out on a multi-pitch climb.
- Rappelling techniques and strategies for multi-pitch rappels.

SOLD OUT Footwork and Technique by Margarita Martinez
Held at the Playground for intermediate climbers (you should be comfortable top roping 5.10)
Learn to rely less on brute strength and more on finesse, balance and technique. Believe it or not, you can cheat gravity with the right body position, footwork and relaxed grip. In this course, you will learn:
- how to position yourself in such a way that balance and body position take precedence over strength. –
- how to use your feet more effectively.
- how to evaluate slabs and how to move fluidly over them.
- techniques for smearing, edging, and jamming your feet.
- how to develop a “full-body” philosophy for climbing.
- how to choose appropriate climbing shoes for different climbing venues.
- control your fear while climbing on varied terrain.

Quick Fix Techniques by Karsten Delap
Torrent Ground School #1 & right side of 11 wall - For all levels of climbing
What do you do when you’re cleaning a route and your locking biner gets stuck and you cannot seem to get it open? What do you do when a bit of hair gets stuck in your rappel device? How do you get back on the rock when your feet are dangling in space and you cant quite reach the roof – and your partner is belaying from above? Karsten Delap of Fox Mountain Guides will answer these questions and more. He will give you quick fix techniques for some of the most annoying and troublesome problems that arise in climbing.

Learn to Lead by Emily Harrington
Held at the Shire - for beginning climbers
Take your climbing skills to the next level and learn how to lead, follow and clean sport routes. In this course, you will learn:
- skills for leading sport climbs.
- how to evaluate a sport climb.
- how to effectively make each clip.
- how to evaluate fall hazards.
- how to manage fear while leading.
- how to catch and take falls while sport climbing.

I know pre-reg is closed, but is there a way I can still register for a clinic? I can't make it down until Sunday morning.
