Just read some comments about jingus biners on some of the steeps at Bob Marley. Dustonian is looking to put together a crew to inspect the fixed gear at Muir Valley. Is it time to consider making an annual event to address this? Not sure if it would spread things too thin, but what about if it coincided with Patricks "Rebolt the Red" day? Lots of climbers out there would probably be interested in helping out, but lack the skills/equipment to drill & fill. Are there still some of those "community" steel biners kicking around that could be distributed? What about last week end of July or August every year to prep for the fall onslaught?
We know that people should be responsible for themselves, but in reality there will always be people out there who just don't know.
So, whatcha think?
Is it time to Revisit "Yank the Mank"
Re: Is it time to Revisit "Yank the Mank"
If anyone's qualified to yank it, it would be you Ian...
There are no steel draws left unfortunately... was gonna clean up and replace stuff at Dark Side about a month ago but can't do it without community support. So you'd just be yanking. It would be nice to at least have a few to leave behind as cleaning draws if routes need cleaning. You can expect a good deal of mank at Bob Marley, Dark Side, and probably Drive By... as with most good intentions in climbing, you'd probably end up paying for a lot of it yourself, and then hear some whining afterwards.
The Rockhouse guys had expressed some interest in doing a fundraiser much like Miguel's did before... it would be great to get something like that going for some PDs for this effort and drill bits, tools, gloves, etc. for the rebolting crew. I can see if they are interested... I can get less-than-wholesale from ClimbTech.
Basically, we need something like the guys down south have with the ActionFund (all of Foster Falls has pretty much been requipped at this point), but we just don't quite have it yet... not to mention there are just too many damn crags here.

Guess the community has spoken. Just watch what you are climbing on and hope you don't have to carry out the guy who doesn't.

A fundraiser is in the works, Ian. I will get back to you.
