There is some respectable sport climbing in and around Rock Mountain National Park.

I can usually do any 11 a b c or d in Muir. Any 10 a b c d outside of Muir. I did do one 12.b at Muir though. But is was Etch a scetch.

First off, Edge-a-sketch is not rated 12b. Secondly, the 14 feet above it should not be either. Yeah there are some easy 12a's in Muir (Beef Stick, Immaculate Deception, Stranger), but there are also some solid-ass ones (Cosmic Trigger, Freakin Deacon), just like in the rest of the Red.

My bad. I meant the top part. And I agree, no way is that a 12.b. Like I said before, I am not a 12 climber. Do you happen to have any beta on boulder, CO?

Check out Neptune mountaineering while you are there if you are are in the area. Besides having a well stocked climbing shop and area advice they also have a bunch of historical climbing and skiing memorabilia all over the shop. ( they also rent pads if you want to do a little bouldering if you didn't bring one)

Try hitting boulder canyon during the weekdays if you can, the weekends can be super busy. Camping near boulder can be hard to find, not sure if you still can but at one time you could camp at the Boulder county fairgrounds in Longmont.

Booked my trip last night. Staying at the Alps Boulder Canyon resort. I Hope they gett those fires under control.

Check out the South St Vrain as well, it's a little less traveled than Boulder Canyon, although the rock quality isn't quite as good. As a bonus you can hit up Oskar Blues for great beers and an old school arcade afterwards. The Monestary also has some great 10s and 11s, plus it's a bit higher elevation so it stays a little cooler.

I'd avoid shelf in August unless you want to fry like an egg...

For good climbing less than 5.12 you have a huge amount of options:

Flatirons: Der Zerkle has several great moderates in the 5.7-5.9 range and a very enjoyable 5.11. Just behind this crag is Dinosaur rock, which houses 2 quality 5.12s and one of the best 13a's in the region.

Boulder Canyon: Avalon is a popular choice with many moderates (one really good 11d called Strange Science) and shady before noon. Animal World, Blob Rock, and Easter Rock are all good options for the afternoon.

South St. Vrain: Buttonrock preserve has an exceptional 12a called 'Redneck Hero.' Seriously, this is one of the coolest pitches around (check out MP.com) and the hang can't be beat--this is a good spot in the morning. There are two good mid 5.10s at that crag as well.

Clear Creek: I really only go to the Primo wall, and I can imagine that if you don't chose the right crag here, you'll fry in the sun.

Crayon, you read my mind on Boulder Canyon. I think I am going to check out Avalon based on what you guys are saying and reading the guide book. I want to climb "Lust". Also going to check out Animal World, Dream Dome, Lower dream canyon, and Blob rock. "The young and the rackless" sounds too fun to pass up.

We had a blast in Boulder. Climbed at Avalon, Upper dream dome, and Animal world. Had beers at Mountain Sun and Boulder Cafe. Thanks for all of you tips. I highly recommend this place for anyone that likes the climbing in the red.
