Other Accident This Weekend?

Post by captain static »

Sunday as I was driving past Martins Fork Trailhead I saw the Wolfe Co. SAR vehicle pulled off along the road. Later in the day I stopped by Gladie and the rangers said a climber fell and got banged up but they didn't know any details. Anyone know anything about this accident?

Contact John May with the WCSART for details.

I spoke with Tim Eling, Forest Service Manager of the Red River Gorge yesterday about the accident. He said that backcountry rangers were patrolling in this general area over the holiday weekend. When they hiked up to Military Wall they noticed an individual leaning against the rock who appeared to be in some distress. They approached him and asked if he was OK. He told them that he had taken a fall climbing and hurt his leg. One of the rangers had WFR training and began assess him and apply first aid. They were then able to convince him that he needed medical assistance and the rangers called 911 with WCSART responding to the call. Mr. Eling also informed me that this individual was part of a larger group of Koreans touring the Gorge last weekend in a large tour bus. He said the bus had dropped off the individual and others at the Martins Fork lot to go climbing.
