gobucksmse wrote:So we saved climbing to shut it down... to save it. Interesting story. Maybe we can grow the sport so we can close all the areas. Why all the bullshit smoke and mirrors about reasons. Why is Grant is just posting lies? He seems like a good guy if he bought a craig just to save it. You say "closed because of a preset agenda" - how did he know who would be climbing when he bought it? Backtrack..... do you have a new story?

Lets start, say 3 or 4 years ago. Say you were at Miguels and you were doing a little research about the "rules" at Graining Fork Nature Preserve. Except, the problem is... no one has heard of it, let alone these rules. You say you know, the place that John and Grant bought.... More blank stares. So, you have one of the most popular well known crags in the history of the Red that has always just been there without any acknowledgement to owners or rules, ever. Then one day last spring the owners wander up to their nature preserve and see the shit show. Hippies, hammocks, dogs, gumby's, babies, perma-draws, and hanging old static lines. But more importantly, they also see the lost vegetation and soil erosion/impaction.

The crag, (not craig), gets shut down. You drink the koolaid and think it is because of the shit show. However, why would 2 climbers supposedly interested in securing access to climbing shut it down? Is it because they are overly emotional, hot headed and reacting to the shit show? I think we both agree that John and Grant are probably not hot headed reactive dipshits. So, if they were distraught over the shit show, wouldn't the next logical step be to address it with posting rules and educating the community on GFNP? That would have been the case if education could have possibly fixed the problem. However, it seems clear that they were of the opinion that no amount of education would fix the "real problem" as they perceive it. Roadside was not the pristine crag that they had found in their youth and as owners of it, they wanted to try to restore it to more closely match their memory of yesterday. While we can debate about the true environmental impact, it is not debatable that it is their right to do with it as they please. So, they thought about it, and took the shit show as an opportunity to try to address their real concern which I would guess had been gradually developing in the preceding years... Roadside was just over-used and needed a rest. So stop pointing fingers and all of your ranting bullshit. Of course, all of this is just my opinion. If you really want to do what is best for climbing at the Red, don't climb there.

I didn't insult the Buckeyes... I merely suggested changing his username to help him find more partners knowing how well Buckeye fans are perceived south of the Ohio border. I cheer for the Buckeyes and I am from Columbus, but I try not to associate with the fan-atics. They are worse than the religious right.
