And by "tries" on a route I mean, climb up to the crux, try it half-heartedly, mutter "take" and something about how pumpy the Red is, then continue on bolt-to-bolt from there. A stream of adulation typically follows from the 5-9 gawkers remaining on the ground.

I'm confused about all this talk about crowds, music, taped holds, lines of hangdoggers, and scenesters at the crag. I was out climbing this weekend and had a great time; hardly saw anyone. What's the big fuss?

The only problem is that I can't find Apollo Reed anywhere on redriverclimbing's online guidebook. WTF Ray?

I guess you could call it 10b, but it's more of just a pump factor. Probably not any single move harder than 5.8.

Oh yeah classic... that's my other favorite line in these parts: "Man I can do all the moves, I just get soooo pumped!!!" [said with a slightly indignant tone]

I typed out a very similar statement then deleted it. I am inclined to agree, tbwilsonky.

It would piss me off to no end to show up at the cliff and see a ton of tape all over the place! I'm with stix on this one, if the retards that left all the trash laying around would have picked it up, no one would have known they taped the holds in the first place. If they want to waste their tape who cares, just take it down when your done, it's the same as littering. It's another thing gym climbers need to be educated on and the locals in the red need to step up and be adult about it and educate them. I am at a lot of different crags now a days and I am constantly educating people. Just speak up when you see something that you do not agree with. I know the majority of you on the board know this already but a lot of "locals" don't frequent the board as much so get on their asses about the problems popping a up in the area. Maybe someone needs to come up with some sort of code of conduct and post it all over Miguel's in a few different languages to possibly get it through to the traveling climbers what "the red" expects of its visitors. It's obvious the people at the coffee shop were from somewhere in Ohio and they have no clue how things work in outdoor climbing. All they know is you follow tape to do a route and it stays on the wall for others to follow.

We should respect the local ethic of the coffee shop and always tape.
