Knee Stability Exercises

Post by Shamis »

I've been googling it a bit, and I have a few, but I know we have some physical therapists/doctors on here, so I thought I'd ask: Anybody know any good knee stability exercises? I've been running more lately and my left knee has been acting up a lot, and I figured I'd try to strengthen the supporting muscles with some specific exercises (in addition to the ice/advil).

Any ideas?

The Pilates shoulder bridge that incorporates leg lifts. After carrying heavy packs while mountaineering I had chronic knee pain. My yoga instructor prescribed this exercise and I have been w/o pain or knee problems ever since.

Be careful with bridge, plow, wheel type positions. I recently heard an interview with a long time instructor who said those were among the most common injury scenarios.

Baloney as long as you have proper instruction. I introduce you to my Guru who worked with Cincinnati professional teams and sports injuries - http://www.liliasyoga.com/

I agree whole heartedly, but I think we can both also agree that getting a thumbs up from a climbing BBS doesn't qualify as proper instruction. Hence my "be careful". :)

The author was William Broad. Here is his book: http://www.amazon.com/o/ASIN/1451641427/sciencefriday/

He gets plenty of hate from the "Yoga Industrial Complex" as he likes to call it.
