If you bolted or re-equipped a route in the Red...

Post by climb2core »

Lets pick a day this spring to meet and offer appreciation.

It would be cool to have a small event one evening at Miguels, all people that have contributed in the past year(s) show up wearing a name tag. We could pay homage with handshakes, words of gratitude, beer, hardware, or cash. We could tell them stories of our epic success or failure on your route. Team suck could educate the masses about their efforts. We could vote best new route of 2011. Worst route too!

Whaduyathink?

You can "appreciate" me all you want next weekend at your buddy's cabin. I'm generally kind of shy about larger gatherings at Miguel's myself, but as far as rebolting goes Blake Bowling, Jeff Neal, Patrick Miller & crew, and Mike & Andrew Wheatley certainly deserve some lovin'. I'm sure there are a couple others too.

Ha, sounds a little like Broke Back Red. Lets just stop at beer, ropes, and a handshake. What is your beer of choice? ;)

Hugh Loeffler has obviously done a lot of rebolting work over the years, though he's gotten involved in "real life" lately. Matt Tackett has done a lot of great work too.

Not too picky on beer, I usually have one or two and fall asleep these days.

As much as I like to spray, I share Dustin's sentiments (I don't need a party). Besides that, I have done little compared to many others... Terry, Blake, Tackett, Kipp, Jeff Neal, Moll's, Hugh, Snyder, Dave Scott, Porter, Kenny, Brad Combs, Johnny, Dustin, Jared, Karla, Mike Wheatley, Wes, Russ, Jason, Kyle, Frank, etc. Sorry if I forgot you. I think this is a good idea, because even though there are a lot of people doing this, the number is so small compared to the total number of climbers at the red. I want to give all the developers and re-bolters a big thank you for that you have done.

Well, it is not so much to spray... but I know that many, many people would love that opportunity to shake the hand of the people who have drilled the bolts that have saved our lives many a time. Perhaps it could be part of Rocktoberfest or Red River Reunion in the future. It is just so rare that you a) run across the people in person (they are always out in the woods bolting), and b) know who they are to say thanks.

Last year, I had the chance to meet Blake while I was working out the moves on Mosaic. It was a really cool experience for me. I know that you (Andrew included) all tend to minimize your contribution and just accept that it is a thankless job, but this isn't about you... it is about the masses meeting their local heroes ;)

It also might help a few more join in the effort...
