Hi RRG climbers.
We are a french couple (around 37 years old both) willing to visit the fantastic climbing place of RedRiverGorge. And we are thinking at a kind of exchange with american climbers. What is the idea: either "exchange flats/house" for a period (2 or 3 weeks) or invit american climbers at our place and in return, these climbers would invit us. Of course we are speaking of american climbers living very very close to RRG.
We are living in a flat in Aubagne, this small city is very close to Marseille and Aix En Provence in the south of france, by the Mediterranean Sea.
Latitude: 43°17'29.87"N
Longitude: 5°34'20.61"E
We are in the middle of tons of climbing places. To give you an idea, you will find from our flat:
- At 30min the Calanques: A MUST. Have a look here:(http://www.gdargaud.net/Climbing/Calanques.html) you can do multipitches routes and sport routes, even some trad. You could climb here more than one life...because there is grade up to 9a.
- At 40 min the Montagne Sainte Victoire: have a look here:(do a google search with:escalade sainte victoire photos) you can also do multipitches routes and sport routes, and some trad as well. You can climb here for years.
- At 45 min, the Cimai: (do a google search with: escalade cimai photos). Fantastic rock, historical place.
- At 45 min, lots of cliffs around the city of Toulon, like:Faron, Baou, Coudon.
- At 45 min, Orgon.
- At 1H00, Chateauvert, great place & rock. (google:escalade chateauvert photos)
- At 1H00, Buoux, no need to speak of this place, just as well known as RRG.
- At 1H30, the Verdon, (http://faudou.pagesperso-orange.fr/photos.verdon.htm ) kingdom of everything,
- And much more at less than 1H30 from our place.
- At 2H00, Saint Leger (http://escasaintleger.canalblog.com/alb ... index.html), an awesome cliff, similar to Rodellar in spain. I personally consider it as the Rodellar of France.
- At 2H00, Ceuse : just fantastic place & rock, also as famous as RRG, considered as one of the best climbing place in Europe.
- At 2H00, hundreds of cliffs around the city of Nice.
- Lots more...have a look here: http://www.climb-europe.com/RockClimbin ... areas.html
So cliffs at 1H30 are OK for a day trip, after it is possible to go for 2 days or more, we can provide tent&stuff for camping, we have everything.
We are climbing all year, we have a very good knowledge of the climbing places in the south of france, we have all the guide books of the south.
It is possible to climb all year, the weather is good. Maybe the worst period would be summer, july&august, too hot. Winter is great but the days are short.
I post this message now but we are not in a hurry of course, our proposal is open for few years . Our flat is big enough for one or two couples, plus us of course.
To discuss in more details, the best is to contact me directly using my email.
Kind of exchange with french climbers
Re: Kind of exchange with french climbers
I've spent some time in Orpierre and the Gorges de la Jonte. It was absolutely fantastic (and great mountain biking)- would love to go back someday. Unfortunately, I'm in Cincinnati, so it's about a 2.5 hour drive to the Red- not a great trade . Sounds funny to hear Ceuse described "as famous as RRG". Didn't realize our little backwater was that well known.
No chalkbag since 1995.
Re: Kind of exchange with french climbers
Hi Kato
It is true that ideally we would like to be at less than 1h30...because we are living in a small country so used to do short distance for a climbing day trip.
Anyway if you need info, keep my contact.
