Although most of the tornado damage occurred in next door in Morgan County (West Liberty is essentially wiped out) there was significant damage to homes and cars in Wolfe County. Literally thousands of windows in homes were destroyed by softball size hail blown sideways at 60 mph plus. Roofs and siding on many of these not-so-sturdy structures were badly damaged. There is hardly a car in Campton without smashed windshields, and they are badly dented - not dimples, but as though someone hit the metal as hard as they could with a hammer.
Many of these folks in Wolfe County could use some help in fix-up and clean-up chores. We will be posting info here in the next few days on how climbers can help give a little back to the community in which they climb.
Stay tuned.

Re: Storm damage to Wolfe County
Phone service just went down again. It is still badly damaged. So, no info is forthcoming at present. The Red Cross has their hands full in Morgan and Menifee Counties, so they are not handling much in Wolfe at this time. Stay tuned.

Thanks for keeping us updated! I know there are lots of able bodies in the climbing community that can help their communityweber wrote: Many of these folks in Wolfe County could use some help in fix-up and clean-up chores. Re: Storm damage to Wolfe County
Phone service is still sporadic and almost unintelligible when we can get through. If any of you climbers can help, please understand that your call may not go through to the people who are able to coordinate your volunteer efforts. No internet in most of the county, so no internet. Hopefully, this will all be back up soon.
The Wolfe County Judge Executive, Dennis Brooks, and the Kentucky Homeland person, Polyanna Shouse, are fielding calls from the many Wolfe County residents who don't have insurance and who are in need of help and materials for repairs to their damaged homes. If you can get through to her, you can tell her what you can offer in the way of assistance. Mr. Brooks wants to designate a week, as soon as possible, where volunteers with carpenter skills, materials, money, etc., can come into the area to help. The details are not yet available - mostly due to almost nonexistent communications.
You probably cannot get through right now, but if you would like to volunteer, please call Pollyanna at 606-668-7900. Or, pshou1@uky.edu
For outside groups who would like to come here to help, there are a couple places that will offer you spartan, but free, lodging. Contact me for details.
Wolfe County is poor. It is in the bottom twenty of 3500 U.S. counties based on median family income. These folks could really use the help.
