Bolts Blowing
Bolts Blowing
I heard that a bolt blew completely out of the rock today in Muir. Any details?
Positive vibes brah...positive vibes.
Re: Bolts Blowing
The rock around the second bolt on Psycho Billy Cadillac blew out today. There was a minor head scrape involved but no major injuries and all parties were able to continue climbing, however it was a close call. I am sure there will be more details to follow.
Re: Bolts Blowing
Thank you for the report, albeit indirectly.
We will be taking a look at this area next weekend and assessing the problem.
Please be reminded that the waiver you sign to climb in Muir Valley includes this clause:
"If I am involved in an accident involving injury or observe any unusual hazard during my visit to Muir Valley I agree to bring such accident or hazard to the attention of Muir Valley, LLC immediately by contacting Rick Weber at richardhweber@gmail.com"
This is also included in the Rules and Guidelines posted on the Muir Valley kiosk.

Re: Bolts Blowing
Not in muir valley! I could see it happening any where else, BUT NOT MUIR VALLEY!
I am done with leading. I will only TR through bolts with them backed up to a tree.

Whiny Peon,
What is your problem with Muir Valley and the Webers? If you don't like what they are doing with THEIR property, then STFU and just climb somewhere else.
K. thanks. bye.

Re: Bolts Blowing
Just wanted to post up that the incident was reported to Rick with a full report within an hour after his post. I spent this morning photographing and processing images as well as documenting the events of the incident so that he would have a better understanding of what had happened before I contacted him. There was nothing that I would classify as an injury nor was there any hazard to others, or I would have made contact immediately.
There was, however, a close call.
As mentioned, the rock around the second bolt at the lip of the roof on Pyscho Billy Cadillac did indeed fail when I weighted the bolt/hanger/draw for a "take" with the aforementioned at my waist. The rock immediately failed, and had I not had an attentive belayer (thank you Jeff Neal!) I would surely have decked. As it is, we merely had a close call with a scrape and a bruise. A "very" close call. (And I was not the first one on the route this day. Jeff had weighted the same bolt not 20 minutes prior.) Once we had determined what happened and that all parties were OK we collected the evidence, red-tagged the route and got on with our day.
Rick and the developer will be examining the route and will make any determinations.
