New to Lexington

Post by Ross B »

My name is Ross, and I am new to the Lexington area. I will be out here for 3 months for a physical therapy internship, and am psyched to do some climbing at The Red on most weekends. I have climbed for 6+ years in sport, bouldering, and rarely dabbled in basic trad climbing. I started out climbing in WI and MN, and have taken trips to destinations with every break from school I got. I have not really been on a rope since last May, and have just bouldered as I resided in the Sacramento area, so I do not know my current rope climbing abilities, but I could previously onsight mid 5.11s and red point 5.12s. I would guess I'm in the 5.11 range at the moment, but I am pretty game to get on anything though and don't currently have any projects in mind. I am a competent belayer and a very relaxed climber. I have climbed with Frank Byron (from Lexington) in WI, if anyone knows him.

Maybe this is sacrilegious to ask this, but is there any bouldering in the Lexington area? I haven't really heard of any, but still enjoy some boulder problems from time to time.

there's no bouldering in kentucky. especially not in the woods. in fact, it's best to STAY OUT OF THE WOODS*.

*ancient texts suggest 'the woods' house trolls, giants, elves, and an assortment of other - non-supernatural - thuggery. ancient = old = better = probably true. so... better safe than sorry.

Check out Bluegrass Bouldering. You can meet some Lexington folks in there.

There is some decent bouldering around the Morehead campus. I believe the area is called Clack Mountain.
