Spring absolutely sucked, summer sucked, but fall seemed decent for me. It seemed every week end that I could go to the Red was a decent forecast. I hope next spring is better!

Obamas fault...why hasnt he yet got a handle on global warming? or is that last year's talking points? why after all the frothing at W have the libs let their chance slip by to make real change? Instead, China is about ready to take over the entire universe, and we have nut heads sleeping in public parks to voice their protest. Surely there is a more proactive way to do something. My guess is many of the protestors are either a: in college with gov't backed student loans, or b: on welfare which is supplies by tax payers or c: on unemployment which is paid for by the evil corporations.....

because he is only one man, and the rest of our government is corrupt. Y'know, the same reason all of those protests are going down.......

I think you're being a little stereotypical, pig. If you actually look at the demographics of the protesters you'll notice that many of them are a) college students who have few job prospects because of the crashed economy (which was brought about in part by Wall Street) and are sitting on $100,000+ worth of student loans from private banks b) veterans and other public servants who's pensions were cut because of irresponsible Wall Street schemes c) people who have paid into unemployment far more than they have taken out but who have been unable to find jobs and their unemployment has run out and d) people of different races and religions- you'll even find REPUBLICANS Occupying parks. These people can't afford lobbyists, so they're doing the only thing they can to get the public and politicians to notice. . .

Many of these people are suffering- they can't afford medical treatment, they can't feed their kids or send them to college. Many of them did nothing wrong- they went to college, got a job and lived within their means and when they lost their job they spent countless hours looking for another- but when you work in an industry that's being outsourced or there is no more demand for someone with your skill-set, finding a job can take years- and you can't just find a job at McDonald's to support yourself and your kids because McDonald's thinks people with a college education are "over-qualified" and won't hire them.

Do yourself a favor and educate yourself before you pass judgment on people in situations that you could have been in with a twist of fate

i would also add that polling data suggests that the occupy wall street protesters actually have higher rates of employment than those that identify with the tea party (just by way of comparison). this is due, in part, to age differences (lots of old white ppl among the tea party, of course). but, the idea that the occupy movement is a bunch of freeloaders and homeless people is, well, not true.

also, isn't it quite obvious that those who are dispossessed, under or unemployed, or are otherwise struggling will be more likely to have serious grievances and also be more likely to air them via contentious means (contentious in the sense that we classify protests as contentious politics vis-a-vis "traditional" methods of participation such as voting and donating to political parties). so, complaining about or mocking the occupy movement because they won't get a job (or whatever), aka the recent conservative reaction to democracy in action, is sort of silly.

the only difference between the reaction to the occupy protesters and those that have given rise to the so-called "arab spring" is that we imagine that the people in egypt have grievances that are "real" -- that is, serious enough that they have a right to take to the streets. however, because of the "everyone-can-achieve" narrative that pervades our country's collective consciousness conservatives, in knee-jerk fashion, fall back on weak allusions to finding jobs and personal morality instead of seeing the situation for what it is. a fundamentally altered labor market across industries and a country governed by a powerful pluotcracy that is not particularly interested in addressing inequality in any real way. ask robert rector from the heritage foundation -- poor people in america don't have it so bad!!! what a joke.

crazyhair..too much to correct in your assessment, but since you asked me to "educate myself" on the topic, allow me to also educate you.

employees do NOT pay a dime into unemployment. ever. it does not come out of your check. you are not drawing on what you "paid in", cause you did not pay in. your employer foots the full cost of it. the more who "claim" against it, the higher their rate goes in the next quarter.
