Just because you're in a gym doesn't mean it's "training". Some of my most involved projects and proudest sends were on plastic. In fact, a lot of gym climbers refuse to train because it's boring as hell.

agree with Justin, add up the hours you have spent at climb time and rockquest in the past, the hours climbing in the Red and even the time you have spent watching climbing videos and that is a lot of training (although unstructured) obviously when you send a 5.14 it may be a lot later than if you had a formal structure but again you are a freak, most people could align every training variable up and still not send one 5.14

I'm gonna send a 5.14 this year just to prove that men with obstructively large weiners can do it, too!

I think you all underestimate the power of the mind. That is the biggest limiting factor, not genetics.

ps Jerry/justin... do you want to climb saturday, we can try my new route I bolted and do some other stuff at the same cliff. New route is hard and I could use your help trying to determine a grade.

that, and jeans. climbers who wear jeans are just killing their send-potential.

I think it's funny you believe the power of the mind is not related to genetics.

Let me defend this "gliding" for a sec....

First off you are correct. The numbers don't lie. I have not improved numbers wise. I put my climbing CV out there, so judge away. I do the same thing.

But I will tell you that I have improved in all those years. There have been numerous routes that where "impossible" for me 5 years ago that are now doable. I have focused more during these "gliding" years than the previous years. So I am going to continue to "glide" to my potential that has yet to be seen.

Do I feel most could do a 5.14? Most "gliders"? If you mean the guys that stall out in the 8a(so French of me) range? No I don't. 5.14 is nearly mythical to me. Sure Sure children and the occasional old guy send 5.14 all the time. But here is the thing. With the risk of sounding like a dick. I have always found it easy to do things in the athletic world or more specifically in the coordination world. At the risk of sounding like a bigger dick I am going to skip the anecdotes. The thing is, I have lived and breathed climbing for well over 10 years and I am not close. So from my perspective No. No I don't think the "gliders" are going to get there.
