"We’re beginning to see the results of the enormous influx of talent that has been introduced to the sport in the last 10 years. And with this, of course, comes both good and bad—just take all the drama currently unfolding at the Red River Gorge, and the host of quagmires both empirical and philosophical that are resulting from the sport’s exploding popularity. Many perma-draws, including community-funded ones, are being stripped from routes by a faction of vigilante locals that people are calling "The Crew." The problem, however, is not the perma-draws themselves, but that all the crags are become more crowded, people are misusing the resource (trash/dogs/waste), gumbies are decking every weekend (three deaths in the last three years) and the in-crowd of locals doesn't like seeing people on routes that are obviously above their heads. Well, that piece had about as much substance as a slice of wonderbread. He had a great chance to talk about stewardship, responsible behavior, and he blew it. yawn.
