id say just wait it out. the body often heals itself better than any doctor can, especially in this case.

Wrong. The body is slow and likes to leave scar tissue behind.

agreed. Scar tissue, especially in the pulley can leave lasting affects. Its a sheath for the tendon, so if you have scar tissue, it increases friction and its hard for the tendon to slide through. Definitely see a hand specialist. And definitely ice and take anti-inflammatory for the next few days keep down the swelling and prevent further damage.

Sorry to hear it, depressing news, for sure.

Hand specialist says A3 pulley tear. They've splinted me up to help it heal better and will probably do some therapy eventually. Bottom line is: no climbing till june :(

i don't know shit and hope all my killing time doesn't get me run out of the red, if i ever get there again.
but, yeah, the body continues to evlove. but 'slow and likes to leave scar tissue behind' just seems rude and provocative.

boiling it down, think mind-body. how stretching causes 'micro tears' (so i've learned here) and tendons heal slowly because of lack of blood supply.
[again, apologies cause this is mostly heresay}

and scabs. you pick them off cause they're scratchy. you keep bleeding. at some point your mind jumps in and says, just wait another day, or go surfing and let that tasty salt water do its magic, just taking the waters.
training is for people who care, i have a job.

Going to an ortho couldn't hurt, but I would be wary of anything they want to do. Orthopedists are surgeons, and therefore their solution is almost always just that--surgery, which, obviously, is not always the best option. At the same time, it never hurts to receive a formal diagnosis.

I would avoid any NSAID if I were you. No doubt, it will reduce your pain, but when a joint is inflamed because of injury, it's because your body is trying to heal itself. Inflammation is the natural by product of that process. Any NSAID will reduce the inflammation, ultimately impeding long term recovery. Ice, fish oil, supposedly don't reduce the "good" inflammation--NSAID's, on the other hand, do.
