The masses descend
Re: The masses descend
I guess everyone is at Muir because the rest of the gorge the crowds have been low.

Re: The masses descend
Muir rarely gets a break... good roads, safe parking, bathrooms, Liz & Rick... what's not to love? (not to mention heaps of easy bolted routes)
Now come on, you 350 people/day--throw some money into the donation box and volunteer a couple days to keep the place up!!

Re: The masses descend
Ive been down every weekend for the past 5 weeks and have only ran into a crowd once or twice (both of which being at Muir). we've had solar collector/gold coast to ourselves the past 2 weeks. I think all those being rejected by roadside and going straight to Muir.
As dustonian said, it'd be nice if all these visitors actually helped a bit.

Not sure if it matters, but it is likely less malice and more ignorance.tH1e-swiN1e wrote:As dustonian said, it'd be nice if all these visitors actually helped a bit.
Re: The masses descend
Sounds to me like the volunteer level is coming up nicely for Muir. Haven't heard about the donation level but I imagine it's still abysmal at best. Point being, give the dirtbaggers a little credit.

isnt this tune played out?
and there are no "dirtbaggers" anymore...not when you drive a car with insurance and can afford pizza, a down sleeping bag, and hi tech cold weather gear...naw, it's all a fantasy.
Positive vibes brah...positive vibes.
Re: The masses descend
from what i've seen the past few weeks the cliffs i've been climbing at have been fairly mellow unless you catch the mass of climbers employed by the zipline. they tend to travel in big crews and if they overlap with a couple of other parties it can get pretty packed. miguel's employees have been given access to torrent on tuesdays and this gets abused just about every week and ends up with 20+ folks up there sometimes so if you have access to torrent be aware of the tue. situation. and as always....try to avoid muir valley like the plague if you haven't already done everything worth doing. the out of towners who have started climbing in the red all fall don't tend to show up till oct and usually try to either miss rfest or get here for it (depending on their inclination). the first week after the rfest should be a good judge of the shit show we will see till the season starts in dec.

Weather forecast for the next 10 days is beautiful low-mid 70s, sunny and dry. Expect a record late registration or pop-in crowd for the RokFest' and bazillions at Muir for at least 4 days straight.
Re: The masses descend
Reported Saturday, Oct. 1 noon at Muir. 60 cars. Everyone seems spread out nicely at the 350+ climbs. No crowding at Bruise Brothers. Slight, occasional mist that dries quickly. Temps perfect.

Not quite bazillions today. By noon, about 200 climbers spread out at 350+ routes.woodchuck008 wrote:Weather forecast for the next 10 days is beautiful low-mid 70s, sunny and dry. Expect a record late registration or pop-in crowd for the RokFest' and bazillions at Muir for at least 4 days straight.
