The RRGCC's general position concerning break-ins is this is a job best left to law enforcement professionals. That does not mean we are idle about this serious concern and problem. The RRGCC has, and will continue, to contact and work with local, State, & Federal law enforcement about these break-in flare-ups. In the past I have spoken with sheriff's directly or with the sheriff departments in Powell, Wolfe, & Lee Cos. When break-ins occur, I have spoken with the USFS and will do so again with this recent rash. The RRGCC also has contacts with KSP. Any information that climbers have concerning the perps such as perp description, vehicle description, license plate nos., & MO is very helpful and will be passed on to law enforcement. Providing such information is a great aid in helping the various law enforcement agencies coordinate, track down the perps, and make arrests.

So my car just got broken into down at the lode parking lot yesterday...my purse was stolen (which was really all that was in there)-with my phone, wallet, id's etc. I filed a report with the Powell county police dept...should I call up the Beattyville PD as well?

You were in Lee Co, which is Beattyville. I don't think Powell Co will help you. You should contact Lee Co sheriff and Kentucky State Police.

Have any of the cars parked at the top of the Motherlode hill been broken into, or have all the break-ins happened in the parking lot right by the trail?

I'm willing to spend two 1-hour shifts per day that I'm at the Lode sitting in the parking lot with a book, working on my tan.

Correct me if I am wrong, but it seems that women's cars are being targeted. Makes sense, as men don't usually carry purses and women rarely carry them to the crag.

Every purse that guy snatches gives him more reason to break another window. Don't leave stuff in your cars, it makes it worse for everyone.

yeah, i don't want to hate but the 'don't leave stuff in the car' just doesn't seem possible for people from further away than a few hours.
car camping is just too convenient for the logistics of a weekend. i'm cool with the rrgcc leaving it up to the g-men, but if they need a camera set up and could check/reboot/whatever it seems like some arrangement could be struck. i mean, what if Koop's was broken into 5 times in a week?
training is for people who care, i have a job.

Yep pretty hard for us weekenders to "not leave anything in the car". Hopefully this problem just gets dealt with and I don't have to pack my entire car to the crag with me. Seems like with this many break ins it would not be to hard for the police to catch them, its probably Trial anyway.

If we take shifts and gaurd the parking lot don't you think he will simply hit a different parking area?
