Anybody out there climb aid?

Post by prometheusdies »

I just got back from a trip to Yosemite with my wife (mostly climbing easy trad) and have gotten really psyched about learning aid to go back someday and get on some big walls. I would love some recommendations for good places to practice aid in the gorge and if anyone has some experience that they would be interested in sharing with a newbie (I have quite a bit of experience with sport up to 12a and trad up 10a but none with aid) I would love to get together sometime. I am going to be in the gorge this Saturday as well as later next week. Thanks for any suggestions and advice.

bad things happen while on aid. Bring plenty of whiskey.

Pretty sure there's close to 10 routes in the red listed from A1 to A2+. Seems if you already climb trad you got 1/2 of it licked. If you trust your placements I say just go give it hell.

yeah. seems like i said this, but bashies, hooks, and blades need to be experienced. there are a lot of undeveloped cracks around, plus searching the route database. i know there was a seam around courtesy, rival, or what about area walls that looked possible, plus the seam over at funkrock (snotrocket?)

i'm going to be a bit of a jerk... but if you're getting into aid, maybe you would want to feel a little more comfortable dwelling in the unknown?

The roof above where lizards dare was an interesting aid section to top that climb out. It will get you used to switching from climbing to aid mid route. Very small cams equalized will get you through.
