Road Condition to get to the southern region

Post by fivepointfourwarrior »

I am planning on coming down to the Red this weekend and was planning on driving my VW Jetta and was wondering what condition the road is in that you take to get to the southern region I am particularly interested in the condition of the super steep gravel hill that you have to drive up on your way out of there? Is it passable with a no 4x4 vehicle with average clearance?

Thanks!

The hill is fine these days--the rest of the road, however, is fucked. You can hike in from the Motherlode parking lot.

On another note, anyone been up to the Choc Fac since the road to it got all jacked up last week? What a mess!

A Jetta would get pretty hammered right now. It is a pretty short hike on the new trail though, and the days are long.

Ok so Park at the Load parking lot. Is there signage to this new trail that you speak of that will get me to The Shire?

That pipeline that is sticking out of the ground should probably be replaced or buried or something...

Walk up the f'ed up road towards Sore Heel for a bit until you see an obvious wooden footbridge on your right. Go there.
