Got one last month and I"m convinced. Simple and works so much better than the Smart. Watch for these to replace grigri's all over the sport world in months ahead. Feeds so much smoother and you are not tempted to 'grab and hold' like the grigri accidents of late.

So after a few more months, what is the consensus on the click up?
Is it good? Or is the gri-gri still the way to go?

Ask many users on this site who's flying asses I have caught over the last year. I don't come to the crag with my grigri anymore. I have yet to see another one at the crag though, so I don't think the popularity is catching like wild fire. This thing should certainly be displacing the ATC-type devices.Shamis wrote:So after a few more months, what is the consensus on the click up? Is it good? Or is the gri-gri still the way to go?

ATC --> click up
Gri Gri --> Faders SUM
Haven't used a click up personally, but I think the SUM is a stellar belay device.

gri gri 2 bitches! no product will take over the gri gri.
I don't have haters, I have fans in denial.

Used it. I think it is quite good for people with smaller hands. I like the bigger grigri.ynp1 wrote:gri gri 2 bitches! no product will take over the gri gri.

I have switched to the click-up. It is much easier to feed rope and as a bonus it is a little bit lighter than a gri-gri.

- half the price.
- simpler machine, excluding the carabiner--zero moving parts
- handles the same as atc
- it is not handed, climber icon is up, hand icon is down. Lefties and righties are mirror images when they are using the clickup. The grigri is a chiral handed object; there is no symmetrical relationship between righties and lefties when using the grigri. For more than a few reasons righties and lefties as mirror images while using a belay device appeals to me.
- I think that both autolocking devices can be compromised by gripping the climber's side of the rope. I have no personal experience doing this with either device. However the way one uses the clickup certainly discourages doing this more than the standard use of the grigri.
This is an unpaid endorsement.

But, the name doesn't sound French.
