I am a climber from TN and i am looking to open up a gym. I am considering Lexington because of the large base of climbers from the RRG. However I realize that the rest of Lexington’s population is generaly very unhealthy. No offense Memphis is full of fat and lazy people too. Because of this I will need to know there is a strong base of climbers that want to be year round members for $50 eft or $45 per month paid in full. I realize most hardcore climbers don’t want a bunch of noobs flooding the gym, but I don’t think this will be much of a problem in Lexington. Yes there will be birthday parties and summer camps ext.; because I don’t think the gym could survive without them. However, the gym will have 7,000-10,000 sq. feet of climbing surface with a good amount of bouldering. Obviously some of the routes will need to be of easier grade otherwise no one who is new to the sport would have fun, but I also want a gym that is serious about training so there will be plenty of stout routes for the rrg regulars. In fact I want the route setters to be serious rrg climbers to make sure you guys get the quality difficult problems you want. I want to have 2000-3000 of the sq. feet to be for bouldering-45 degree wall, free standing, arches, top outs, and the rest will be a mixture of 5.6 - 5.13 TR with an overhanging lead cave. I’m not far off financially to do this but it will not make sense unless I can get strong pre-membership sales- at least 70 climbers i believe i can get at least 30 more from general fitness and the numbers will need to grow from there.
I read a previous post similar to this one and it was simply people bitching about there not being a climbing gym in Lexington or talking about how it wouldn't or would work.

If you are trying to get people to commit there money with no property, scheduled opening date... Good luck. Get a website, show your design, location, highlight what makes it special and then on your website have a page for pre-sign ups... Of course there should be a decent discount for the first 100 in. If you need more ideas send me a pm, but they will cost from here on out

There is a climbing gym in lex. Have you looked into Knoxville? Bigger base population, bigger college campus, outdoor climbing close enough for weekend warrior status, but not for after work workouts.
