Stick Clip & Flying....

Post by climb2core »

Going to Vegas (Red Rocks) next week Debating about:
a) taking stick clip with me
b) going to hardware store and making one for $20
c) trying to make one from tent pole before leaving
d) just sucking it up and trying to find a stick if I need it.

Anyone with experience?

Thanks

i broke my knee at red rocks because i fell before i got to the first (very high) bolt so i would strongly recommend against option d. spending $20 on a stick clip is much better than getting hurt and coming home early.
Sand inhibits the production of toughtosterone, so get it out and send.

Do you own a squid or super clip? Just take that with you and buy a paint pole for 10 bucks once you get there. Don't waste your time on the tent pole variety. As Phil pointed out, you won't get to the first bolt.

If you are going to vegas to climb sport you're missing it!
If you give a man a match, he'll be warm for a minute. If you set him on fire, he'll be warm for the rest of his life!

Isn't a stick clip part of your rack?

Going for a conference and decided to throw in a couple days of climbing. Just looking for easiest solution and not worried about 20 bucks.

Agreed, Vegas is all about the hookers!! Of course, you may want a stick for climbing some of them too...

There is one more possibility. If you are planning on climbing at popular crags at Red Rocks, you can simply borrow a stick clip from someone else at the crag. It is pretty much guaranteed that there would be one to borrow.

But if you are the self-sufficient don't-borrow-shit person, then bringing a squid or a clamp along, and buying a pole at destination is the way to go, IMO. We've done that recently on a trip to Smith Rock, and that was $20 well spent. A tent pole stick clip would have been completely useless on those high bolts, and I am not hardcore enough to boulder up to the first bolt in Smith.
