If dws at summersville lake caused a closure of all climbing in west virginia it would probably still be worth it.ynp1 wrote:I love this shit. We always talk about access problems and how we should respect the land owners and shit, but here Is a thread all about how to poach climbing...
I'm all about it though, I think you should go sneak into torrent and climb also, fuck it! We are climbers and we can do what ever we want!!! (sarcasm if you missed it)
Lake Summersville

Re: Lake Summersville
it's not quite so black & white. the banning of deep water soloing (which was intended to keep drunk idiots from killing themselves who jump from 80 ft onto a log) was put in place by people who don't realize that DWS is much safer than drunk cliff jumping, and, is almost completely different altogether.ynp1 wrote:I love this shit. go ahead and try to compare the impact of climbers at the base of a cliff & climbers who float up in a boat, touch the rock, then float away. DWS is probably the least invasive type of climbing on the planet. also, b/c you have to rent a pontoon boat (250 bucks for a day), it generates mad money.... or at least it COULD if the idiots who make such silly rules knew what they were doing. it's certainly a tragedy to lose the country's best DWS locale to a dumb rule. but, on the other hand, just be vigilant & paranoid about it and you have no problem.
