Is it spraying if you never send anything hard, but are excited to finally send a climb that you couldn't do before and you tell your friends about it? To me that seems normal. I think it is fun to hear when someone sends something they are happy about, even if it is a 5.8. Maybe it is only spraying if you did a 5.13/5.14 that a lot of people cannot do and you are trying to show how you are stronger than everyone else? Why would someone be annoyed if someone said, "I am so psyched, I finally did Fuzzy Undercling today!" I love to hear that type of stuff. Does that count as spraying?

No, not in your case cause you WANT to hear it. So, you can make a cardboard sign to put around your chest.... Please, share your spray with me!!! Get a chair and hang out at Miguels. Then people can line up to share to their great sends with you.

LOL, it is not the grade. It is only spray if you are telling it to people who couldn't care. For the most part, I love hearing people share their sending stories. But that changes really quick when it is all about their ego. When it is your turn to share your story and they become bored and interrupt you to tell someone else about their send...that is spray and those people do exist and suck.

No way, that's just being psyched. I love hearing that stuff too. Isn't it kind of obvious when someone is an obnoxious spray tool? I think so.

I think the two of you have hit the nail on the head. It really depends on the intent of the spray. If the intent is to belittle people, and to show everyone how much better you are, then spray is bad. If you spray because you are psyched and passionate, then its all good and I actually want to hear about it.

Personally, I love it when my friends tell me when they send, as I am proud of them and it helps get me psyched.

So, I lost my shoes Saturday, either at the base of the 5.7 at Greatwall or at the base of Super Best Friends, which I totally almost flashed, except fell cause I was so damn sick.

This is multi-purpose spray: Telling everyone how I can ALMOST flash a 12b and more importantly share how I can't find my damn SHOES (Sportiva Solutions) I left MV. Incidentally, I had already sent the 5.7, but took multiple whippers on it that day teaching a belayer to catch a fall...

Here is an example of negative spray: SBF is 11d. 12a credit with cold or hangover.

Oh, I know... that is why I got on it, LOL. I am all about the fluffed sends. I had a fever and was sick. It was 12b that day. I can't wait to get back on when it is 11d.

OK 12b with fever above 99.5F only. We are still proud of you and support your valiant effort. Hope you find those shoes.

Thanks for the clarification everyone. I agree. I never could understand why you would say something negative or minimizing in response to someone's enthusiasm about a send. (e.g., "I just sent my first 13a!" ...response, "It's really a 12c" or "I onsighted that w/ one arm tied behind my back."). Unless, of course, the person was spraying and so you were trying to cut them down to size. :-0

I actually normally do the opposite with people spraying... I normally say something like "12c... It is WAY harder than that!!! I can't believe you sent that shit! Damn, one day I want to be as strong as you!!" Normally, they are so into themselves, they have no idea I am making fun of them ;) Way more entertaining...
