NICE MATT AND PAUL! good picture too. I can't even see Matt's skankfro, he has it pulled back and tamed so well.

many thanks guys. we got a long road ahead of us but with everyone working together i really believe amazing things will happen.
to answer your question hugh. there are two separate programs in play right now. the 2010 rtp grant is for the pmrp/rrgcc land only and was applied for and granted based on the rrgcc being a non-profit human powered recreation area. starting in 2011 the rtp changed a little and requires that you have to work through fiscal courts/government systems. so this year i have been working with the powell county tourism and fiscal court to purchase and build a mountain bike park in powell county using the 2011 rtp grant program. will find out if we have been awarded that as a county in a few months. will be sending out some letters for everyone to send out to help us, as a county, get that approval. i see this as huge steps in building a bridge between outdoor adventure users and the local politicians of the region and look forward to the relationship growing strong and benefiting not only the end user but the truly local community and businesses. we will also be restoring the land that has been abused with the powell county project. in all reality, its a feel good situation all around. these funds have to be used on multiple-user trails systems, we are focusing on mtb, trail running and access trails.
to touch back on the climbing side of things. in doing these projects it got me amped on how as developers/rock and trail, we can control the impact the hordes bring on our land .to me the impact on the rock is pretty negligible and im done arguing too many or not enough bolts, let someone elses ulcers flair up on that from now on. but one thing that does keep me up at night and is truly preventable is the immediate and broadcast erosion at the crag base and access trails. these affect much more than just the land they cover. you focus water downhill, which is what most of our trails do and damage happens fast and is wide spread. along side this project i am wanting to develop an access trail and a general trail recommendation package for the developers and people helping with mtb trails and other systems. we will also be hosting trail building seminars, to build a proper trail there is actually a lot to it and imo pretty fun to design.
mtb trails aside, if you are a developer and are putting up lines in the pmrp please let me know. im not even able to climb right now, so you dont have to worry about me skanking your line, i have lost all flair for crowds and will keep hush hush until the area is cleared by you and all involved to be opened. but as a group we do want to start making sure trails are laid our properly to begin with and if any problems exist get them fixed before the crowds eventually come, and they will. some of the folks that sink the bolts in are also some of the folks that never show to a trail day to fix their first trails. actually, im ok with that, we all give how we can. but those folks putting in the bolts, need to take responsibility for the land they are using and in all reality abusing. by allowing those of us amped on the trail side of things to do our thing both groups can help make it better for everyone involved , the integrity of the land and saving much more work later doing repairs. lets not keep making the same mistakes and expecting different results, im pointing the finger at me as much as anyone so dont get too mad.
so in the end, we got mtb trails to cut, we got old trails to repair, we got new access trails to cut and so on and so on. let me know if you or if any groups you know of would like to get involved. remember, you dont have to wait for a trail day to work on trails.......
many thanks again for all the support from the community. all of us working together creates amazing things.tay tuned for updates and stay safe.

Re: Mountain bike trails and crag repair
i could go on and on about this. i still haven't forgotten the first time i rode my fixed gear banana seat long handle barred bike down the edge of the road on a single track to the 7-11 in about 1973. turns out, i didn't have any money.
ever since then i've watched as housing developments ate up amazing trails all over chapel hill.
that was 15 years ago.
so this is so sweet. of course, when i find an excuse to move up there, it's your problem.
does trail building proceed week of March 19-20th?
edit--from the rrgcc site:
"Matt is planning to hold a mountain biking trail building session on the 3rd Saturday each month. The next trail building dates are 2/20/2010 and 3/20/2010. For those interested in the efforts, become a fan of “Pedal The Red” on Facebook for updates."
really? facegook?
