Noob question
I haven't been able to find an answer for this yet, if you're climbing lead and just can't finish the route is there a way to collect the draws or are they just lost?
Re: Noob question
Yeah this isn't a problem. As long as you have a few carabiners to leave behind. Better than leaving behind draws!
1. Clip the rope through a single carabiner in the highest bolt you reached, then remove the quickdraw and hang on the rope.
2. Lower down to the next bolt, Place a single carabiner in the hanger, clip the rope to it, and remove your quickdraw. If the bolt is at all dubious, clip a third bolt.
3. Lower to the ground while removing the rest of the quickdraws. If the bolt quality is at all dubious, clip a third bolt.
If you didn't have extra carabiners, you could just take a couple off of some of your draws, that way you don't leave the whole draw behind.

Re: Noob question
or you could stick clip your way to the anchors and not have to leave any gear... that's if stickclipping is an option, sometimes it's not. or bail off of 1 or 2 bolts kinda like instructed above and leave a cheap biner (leaver-biner) behind or cheaper quicklink (bail-link) from the hardware store. good luck out there.

Re: Noob question
always climb with someone stronger than you. or use their draws in the first place. gives them incentive.

I knew a girl who climbed for three years and only owned shoes and a harness. She always climbed with the sporties and only followed the crowds. The was alright.

Just get on one of the multitude of fully equipped routes.... doesn't matter if you can finish or not.

Ditzy, I have gear of yours. But the pantry is full and so is the keg. Let the negotiations begin on how you're gonna get your gear back!
