Re: Jesus H
But kind of like I expected very few believers have commented on my questions...
The "bad" in the world is the reason I do not believe there is a god. It almost makes me HOPE there is not a god, because I do not want a god that is so bad at his "job".
The fact that there is evil or bad things in the world does not disprove that there is a god, and I understand that... It may disprove the christian god, but I am sure the christians will argue that into the ground. (not hating on christians, it also applies to Muslims, Jews, Hinduism...)
I feel better about not believing in a god. I don't waist my time worshipping a god that I do not believe in what it is doing. I also, don't waist my time hating that god. Many people expend a lot of energy on hating people or things. That is not a great way to live your life.
There is very little that I truly hate in this world, besides HIPPIES!!! ha ha ha!

Some adulterated tome that is pounded into your head when you are susceptible to fairy tales isn't what gives me pause. Nor is it the lifeboat mentality of life ever after for those that subordinate themselves to a narcissistic deity.
What makes me think there may be a benevolent God is the perfect stone we climb on. So many bitching lines, movement so good, the marriage of movement over stone and stone itself to make a momentary revelation. Bill said it best in the beginning of Ray's guide.

It fits. We never went to the moon, just lied so we could beat the soviets. NASA are all liars. Now he wants us to believe in prayer. Sheeesh.pigsteak wrote:Rep. Giffords husband said our prayers are being heard for his wife, and for us to not stop. What do you guys say to this? he is leading the next space launch you realize.
Should we boycott and protest his silliness? tell him that is ridiculous to think prayer is helping his wife...come on you atheists...don't quit now. What do we tell him, and I will pass along your sentiments in a letter.

YNP1- Im curious as to what you do in life that isnt a waste of time? No believer has replied to your argument, because you simply havnt made one. You have only talked about how bad stuff happens, how god sucks, and how good life should be if there was a god. Im not quite sure what hand life has dealt you ( picked on in high school, bad home life, molested during childhood, suck at climbing) that has led you to your beliefs, but you are no different than the low life protesters that falsely represent christians, through writing words of hate that stem from your own extreme beliefs. through my profession, i have balanced risk with my life more than most and seen more evil from man in a day than you will ever see from behind the comfort of your keyboard. With this, i have chosen and know the beliefs in my god are real. But only because i seek the word. I enjoy intelligent arguments, and several have been made by christians and atheist alike. Yours.......not so much.
Re: Jesus H
As someone who was kicked out of a baptist church when I was 13 for questioning the bible, I've done my share of searching and arguing. What it always seems to come down to, in the end, is that if you have faith... then great. If you don't... then great.
Ted, good argument. I like the statement "I have chosen and know the beliefs in my god are real." That can't be argued, since your beliefs are yours to have. Aren't you supposed to capitalize god or something though?

I addressed all three in the three-page paper I ended up writing. The last third of the essay ended up being an outline. However, all of those were addressed. I just decided to stick to the foundation.Climbingrocks wrote:Whatahutch, at some point you will have to reconcile at least 3 things that are impossible to ignore:
1. The god you describe is not even close to the god of the bible. I have been through the entire bible and studied this for years and I have never understood where people get this "god is loving and just wants to forgive you crap". There are a parts in the new testament that send that message, but it's no where close to the amount of evidence for god being a manipulative, jealous, sociopath.
2. Research the history of the bible. Research who wrote it and when. You will be amazed at how fraudulent this document actually is! It's has been edited and revised with things added and subtracted for 1500 years. There is no shortage of literature on this point. I can't ignore this magnitude of historical fraud. Definitely look into this.
3. Most important, when people say they have faith, what they really mean is that they have faith in a small group of remarkably ignorant and corrupt people 2000 years ago that wrote all of this down. You have faith that what they wrote was accurate, which it most certainly is not.
I guess I could email it if you wanted to read it.

I am assuming you are referencing The Simpsons.Shamis wrote:If you want any sort of political power, you must praise jebus. The masses won't have it any other way.
However, did you know that Jebus is actually a shortened form of Jerusalem. The Jebusites settled around Jerusalem and therefore it is sometimes shortened to Jebus in the OT.
