Brentucky and Shamis I have a deep respect for your philosophies. On one side we have Brent slack-jawed and babbling as he beholds the universe's perfect tits. On the other sides we have Shamis pooh poohing the fence sitters. Can't both of you meet in the middle upon consideration of the world's religions and say that guessing at something as marvelous as the universe and putting faith in any one culture's guess is just plain idiocy--almost an irreverent act--even if it is your own culture?

ah, sir arthur, yu put words in my mouth..I never said a peep about a christian god..just a god.

sadly for me, I only know a few atheists, and I must say they do not impress me with their kindness, joy, and mirth for living..in fact, some of them are downright grumpy. naw, for my money I have zero problem with people of faith or people of no faith. in fact, just because you believe in god or not believe in god makes you no "kinder" than the next guy.

so if I am a fence sitter, so be it. I am comfortable living with wonder and myth as part of my makeup. in fact, I would go as far as to argue that folks who climb away their weeknds waste more of their life than someone who goes to church on sundays. love to hear how anyone can justify "wasting" their very existence by inane rock climbing. my guess there are a few diehard atheists on here who will blather on about the virtues of rock climbing. pffft...Brent's unicorn club is sounding downright good compared to that.
Positive vibes brah...positive vibes.

Naw it is just my little Satanist tattoo that I picked up when I was in Haiti a few years back. Don't ask me how I came by the horns or I will head butt your ass when I see you next at the crag.

Know the truth and the truth shall make you mad. DNA is the tree and we are just fruit. After a season with chance to spread the seed, perdition is our destiny. Even identity and and existence and persistence of the self are subject to a healthy dose of skepticism and philosophical reworking. In the face of the enormity of it all, we feel small and vulnerable. In the hours of daylight we play with curiosity and joie du corps for their own sake for we know that life can have no real meaning. This is it and this is transitory; what's not for sale or utterly useless rots off your bones after it is all over.

- piggy seems like you know enough people to know that people suck.
- wasting time climbing? That is a contradiction in terms man. wasting time not climbing is a statement I can manage to parse, a statement sir that galvanizes me to the viscera and heightens the activity of every nerve.

krampus... I feel that everybody believes, thinks, leans toward, something. I think it would be harder to say you believe both equally then it would be to say you are leaning more toward on side over the other. MAYBE, you are always changing sides... That sounds pretty crazy to me... If the sun is out, "I believe", I get stopped at the stop light, "No God", I find a dollar on the ground "god", I stub my toe "no god"...

Pigsteak... I am glad you are enjoying the book. It is a great book and I think everybody could learn something from reading this book. I have not read the book in a little while, so you could be right about my last sentence. But, after looking back through it I think the bottom fo page 96 through 99 explain it pretty well.

I look forward to hearing more about what you think about the book. It makes me look back through the book, which I enjoy!

Oh yeah about atheist being unkind, happy and not loving life.... I totally disagree. I know more christians and believers that are unhappy then I do my atheist friends that are living it up. I think you must just have one bad apple in your friends that are an atheist.

Hey, I know the God ya'll are claiming to not exist, I talk to Him every day. and He's pretty pissed off at the fact that you guys think you have all the knowledge in the universe to "believe" that He doesn't exist. The proof is out there if you really were intentional in finding it. Maybe you don't want to be accountable to your Creator. Who exists whether you "believe" in Him or not. If we die and the pork chop unicorn party is right, then I stand corrected. But if it's on the flip side, and all this "mythical" nonsense just happens to be true, you would have missed out on one hell of a deal.
