Not sure what treadwall you guys are using... but the one at our gym is motorized and great for training on. You can set your speed and angle and it gives you total distance climbed. You can also choose from hundred of pre-set "routes" so the wall will change in angle while you are climbing. There are stop buttons on either side, so when I need a rest, I hit the button and camp out on one of the jugs I have set on the route. I think it is an awesome training tool...

I wouldn't argue that it isn't a good training tool, but that isn't what this thread was about... I just don't think that it's the end all tool for beginners. In fact, If I were to train a beginner, and they had the choice over a treadwall or a climbing gym, I wouldn't even consider the treadwall. Theres so much to learn that just can't happen on a treadwall of any size.

Yea, I agree on that one. In fact I don't even understand it when I see beginners doing laps up and down the wall like they're training for a project or a seasonal peak in endurance but their technique is terrible. I feel like that would just ingrain their bad technique even further.

Seriously though, the best thing for non-climbers is sex, as much and as often as possible. And if that doesn't work, there are always video games

For sure... but if they refuse to ever learn good technique, they might as well be able to climb a long time with it!

I just had a stroke of luck today! I was talking to my father-in-law and it looks like that one of his friends actually has a treadwall in his back yard!(beats driving an hour to the nearest gym that has one!) Apparently it was for his son that was into climbing. He said that it probably would be no issue if I wanted to use it! As soon ass the sow is gone you can bet your butts that I will be there. It is perfect for me since I get bored with regular exercise too easy!
