You left out that important detail of the story where you still took pictures with your iphone....

I unknowingly jugged a core-shot dynamic rope while bolting at a new crag back in October... the sheath got all bunched up in the grig and stuck.... I clipped into a bolt and flipped the rope. Then I came down. Truly epic by RRG standards.

bolting the Surf, and Goodguy tells me to watch for the rats chewing static lines hanging overnight as they chew the cord for bedding. I shrug it off, but get a bit freaked as I had left the rope for a week. the access to the top of the Surf was a real pain, but I dutifully walk around and check my rope...good thing I did, because it was half gone..in fact, I left it on a tree on top of the Surf, so 30 years from now you can tell your kids this story.

not nearly as freaky as bolting at the Missile Silo in Muir and placing three cams, equalized, under a 400 pound boulder which I knew was loose. when I leaned back to weight it, the three cams lifted the boulder and literally dropped it in my lap. lucky for me, I was tied off 15 feet to the right and swung out of the way, just missing getting my rope severed. even worse, as the rock fell 80 feet and splattered below, I noticed that is where I had tied up my dog the day before.

and then the iced rope...again at the Surf. do not combine a smaller diameter rope, a worn gri gri, and an ice sheath for the top 25 feet of a rope. I lowered over the edge into the ice (no gloves), and the rope would not catch on the ice on the rope...I accelerated 25 feet over the lip, and then slowly slowed down after 40 feet after peeing my pants. this was all my bolting gear in tow and a drill. lowering into the surf is a freefall anyway, so I was freaked out.

ok, I am a gumby.
Positive vibes brah...positive vibes.

I never trust your ropes.
They're either 20 years old, ice covered, or stored with batteries.

I am going bolting today, so thanks for freaking me out. I hope today is the most boring day imaginable.

Hah, No one wanted to share stories because for the most part is does imply a certain degree of gumbiness on the teller. :) Kind of like fat chicks and scooters... everyone has done it, laughed about it, but no one really wants to admit it. Until one person is man enough to step up and share their story about their "fat chick". I salute you Foster, for breaching that barricade and sharing with all for public humiliation.

I gotta go, but will make sure to share one or two later as well...

Piggy, good stuff too :)

Thanks, I felt I needed to tell that tale to warn people of the obvious fact that Left Flank does not connect with Military, even in the dark.
