Weather in Red river george
Re: Weather in Red river george
I've climbed in the gorge the past two years in March. Last year I was there mid month and thought it was great. We followed the sun and stayed very warm - ocassionally down to a tank top! Mornings were raw! There was plenty of snow and ice still around in Muir. Beautiful cascades of frozen water coming down many of the crag walls. It was certainly quiet! We had no rain either weekend. the days are of course short. in 2009 we climbed in rain and it was pretty miserable with the cold. Overall, I'd do it again but given a choice, I would try early April.

Last spring was a very rare thing indeed; out of the ten years I have lived in Kentucky I have never seen such little rain during wet season(march april may), and as a kayaker I was extremely disappointed. I'm assuming the chances of us having another spring like our last one is about 1 in 10.

Does Twinkie stay dry in a downpour?
Re: Weather in Red river george
I just read that it's not a good climb in the rain: http://www.mountainproject.com/v/kentuc ... /106132213 "The bottom of this and Phantasia seep pretty badly in a good rain. So while you are sheltered from the rain the starting slab might be pretty wet. So don't plan on these for a rainy day".
I wonder if that was just a rare instance, like maybe it had been raining for days and days before they even got on it.

Fascinating analysis.

C'mon guys, let's see if we can't get a thread with a simple question up to 6 or 7 pages, we are on the right track! To help derail things a bit, I thought you Mr. Redpoint had said that you found the crux to be the roof climbing and not the slab, so shouldn't you be able to send it still spray bitch?
