missing bolts/hangers at pistol ridge

Post by possum2082 »

hey guys,

it seems that we have some missing bolts/hangers on danger mouse and triceratops. i was planning on going up next sunday to settle a long standing grudge with bitchmobile.

while up there, i would love to bring my drill and put new bolts and hangers where the old ones have gone missing.

thoughts?

thanks.

yeah, I noticed they were missing back in the spring when I made the journey up there. Good for you for taking care of it, esp. hauling all the gear up that damn hill. The only issue I see is the bolting ban on FS land. You might have to check with them first. Then again, you're not bolting anything new, only replacing what is missing on an existing route. Good luck!

I think the bolts are there and they are studs. The hangers are missing.
Do some research and see what's available hanger-wise. My guess is a 5/8" hole on the hanger.
Take a few of them with correct size nuts and some loctite and you have an easy fix, with a lot less to haul up there.
If you find the correct side and a source, I'll pay you for a couple and take them to Purple Valley and fix the Love Shack.
Edit- if they're not 5/8" I'd guess 3/4". Never used either so it's just a guess on the size.
Just be sure to use red loctite, they seem to make nice key chain decorations or something.

Just Do It ! Those are great climbs that deserve a little TLC.

No need to check with the Forest Service. They don't have any problem with maintenance. I would just wonder about placing a hanger on a stud that has been there a while. Especially on Love Shack. Might want to see if they really need to be replaced?

Love Shack Studs were in surprisingly good shape. Lee and I were up there in the spring to replace them but could not get old studs out. Didn't want to leave 3/4" of sharp steel on a hard slab route for someone (me probably) to fall onto and get sliced up, so we thought the best option was to reuse them with elusive over-sized hangers.

Anyone in the know, please inform if those hangers get put back up on routes on Pistol Ridge before the Rocktoberfest weekend. Several climbers interested in starting there.
