Indian Creek Road Closures (Again)

Post by captain static »

The U.S. Forest Service is temporarily closing roads to vehicle traffic in the Indian Creek area of the Red River Gorge while the roads undergo repair. The road closures will alternate on Forest Service roads 9, 9A and 9B.

Several small culverts will be installed during the road repairs. The old existing culverts were damaged and in need of replacement. The new culverts will improve water drainage and help prevent soil erosion.

The estimated closure dates are as follows:
Road 9B – closed through August 20
Road 9A – closed August 23 through August 27
Road 9 – closed August 30 through September 3

For more information, call the Cumberland Ranger District at (606) 784-6428 or the Gladie Center at (606) 663-8100.

I haven't received any updated info yet. Sent an email to the USFS Public Relations contact to see if I can get an update. From past experience if they are going to open it back up I would expect a press release tomorrow.

I think there is a good chance that it will be closed longer than scheduled. 9a was still closed on the 29th...

The roads in the Indian Creek area are being opened this evening 9/2/2010 for the holiday weekend and then will be closed again Tuesday morning for continued work back in that area.

Anyone know how the backend of 9a will look this weekend? Most of the campsites washed out? Not that it will be dry by the weekend anyways.
