I'm with you. But I think the interval training can be a good way to get up to the point where you can run long distances at a slower pace. a few of my workouts were run 1 mile to warm up, then alternat sprint/easy run each 1 mile lap for the second mile.
I got it stuck in my head that I have to run the whole thing without stopping to walk, but that's just me - and it may me that climbing mentality behind it.
I was thinking that you can still send with a climb/take as long as it is a redpoint try.
I did a walk/run today on the trail. It changed from a run to a run/walk at about the 4 mile mark when I threw up. It's hard to run while your blowing chunks. It was hot today. I think I broke my dog. He is still laying in the floor from a run 4 hours ago.

and ron is right.....I happened to know one who runs for hours in a day for charity...right ron????
Midway is only taking first 1,000 on-line registrations. No registration day of. If you aren't maintaining a 14 mph pace at 5.something, you will be invited to leave the race.
What I love about running is you can meditate while running. It's a peaceful place.

well i tried the run 2 mins walk 1 min today for 30 mins. i still only did 2 miles, but instead of feeling like i was quitting bec i couldn't run anymore, i realized i was stopping because it's time to go to work tomorrow i'll have to start earlier.
i'm going to try and up it to 3 mins walk 1 in a bit. hopefully that will help me get up to the run run run of a 1/2. although my friend backed out and said she only wants to try a 10k - i figure i can do that too! (with some training first!)
thanks for all the tips - i'm going to read through those sites today. i checked out the runners world for marathon times/places and that was really helpful.

There's the rock n' roll half marathon in Vegas in December... The rock n' roll marathon series has lots of events.
In the spring there's 3 races that are spaced a few weeks apart leading up to the Derby mini. 5k, 10k, 10mi. These were helpful becuase if you hadn't run that distance before you could do a race and know that the next one was just a little more.
I agree with what everybody is saying, I signed up for the Louisville triple crown a few years ago and after doing the 5k and the 10k I didn't have a problem running the 10 miler, I wasn't fast but I did run the whole thing.

The mental aspect of doing a longer run is very important. I did a 40 mile race in June. The first time I wanted to quit was at mile 6. Then again at mile 10. The lady at the aid station at mile 19 offered me her chair. I almost sat down. For good. Even at the last aid station, 3 miles from the finish, I thought, "Damn, this hurts, I want to stop." You just have to train your mind to ignore all those signals.
Someone mentioned that you have to listen to your body to avoid injury, but you have to learn to tell your body to stop whining because it will lie to you and tell you it hurts when it's really just a bit annoyed with you for running when it wants to sit on the couch and watch Big Bang Theory...
