It seems like any produce you buy in a given grocery store is grown on commercial farms and thus is genetically modified and/or sprayed with gross amounts of toxic pesticides. And any meats we buy from the same stores are not only treated with potentially cancer-causing growth hormones and antibiotics, but are also fed the same GMO corn and other shit. The only sure way to get healthy, chemical-free meats and produce is to know the person who grows/raises it or to grow/raise it yourself.
And on the subject of the oil spill...something is definitely shady there. Otherwise it seems like the US would have openly accepted the huge amount of help offered by Europe immediately after the disaster began. But we don't need oil anyway. The 'higher ups' are keeping it in use as our primary energy source to keep us thinking that we're dependent on something they have complete control over. Tesla had nearly-free energy generation figured out decades ago and applied it on quite a large scale. We need to learn about the design and application of this stuff so we can take the power back..literally.

Also, Anti, I was being a smart ass. The fact that we "created" fish that will eat corn is the ultimate testament to how fubar we are.
cheap and abundant fossil fuels have let us all be lulled into a long comfortable nap - and now we are looking at the longer term and indirect costs of our energy choices.
There is definitely enough blame to go around, politicians, corporate excess, and messed up consumer behavior. i tend to blame the first two a bit more though.
I don't look to politicians to lead us into any sort of a sustainable energy future - they are by their nature too focused on short term gain for an issue that is going to take decades. The same goes for the corporate execs trying to maximize shareholder and personal wealth.
AND, I sure as hell don't look to climbers to save us!

all you haters die slow.
Man..you don't even have to say the words 'conspiracy theory' anymore to trigger that programmed response. Also, you're no more 'right' for thinking that technology doesn't exist than you would be thinking that it does. All we know is what we read on the internet or get told on TV. You don't know for sure and neither do I, but I've seen multiple patents online with diagrams and detailed explanations of how these things work. They make sense to me, but I'm not too well-educated on the subject. Look it up though. You may be surprised what you find.

or Pigsteak.....
Let's make it personal...for all those who say they want change, what are you doing personally right now to make it happen? are you willing to give up your hobbies such as climbing to make a difference? Are you willing to bike 20 miles each way to work?
Don't blame others. What are YOU doing?

Positive vibes brah...positive vibes.
I don't do enough, but do do much more than I did.
Only a Sith deals in absolutes. The idea that you're either totally effing it up or you are a total monk is absurd.
One less light on, one less TV in the house, fewer trips in a car anywhere, better use of electricity and waste management in your area, riding your bike more than you get in your car, aiming for a third of your food to be locally grown........these are all reasonable things that help.
Even if only half of what you put in your Rosie actually gets recycled you cannot dismiss the intangible benefits in that cultural behavior has changed and the systems are in place for when recycling is an absolute necessity.
Reality is built on shades of gray and every action that comes in as a lighter gray where it could be a darker gray helps raise the average.

yeah kipp, as i said, it's not an overnight one person saves the world but little by little we can chip away/reduce our use.
i don't tell people they have to eat tree bark, live in a cave, and never bathe. just plant a tree, make your home more efficient, turn off the water when you brush your teeth or wash dishes in the sink instead of under running water.
what have YOU done pignugget??
