The restroom is Muir is definitely appreciated. Unfortunately when nature calls it is a bit of a hike to get to...

I always try and make a "special delivery" at the rest area in Slade. And when that is not enough digging a proper hole is not difficult...
I've been a gumby longer than you've been climbing.

Liz -

Thank you for your post - it sounds like gentle reminders accomplish little. I've got other ideas I've been pursuing and hope that will reach people.

Well, perhaps we have raise ourselves to a higher standard. Responsible people have to tidy up after the masses. I pick up cigarette butts and other trash. I guess I will start cleaning up these areas too when I stumble upon them.

I agree Art...somehow I am still amazed everytime I see something like this. That mess at Bob Marley (BM!) is particularly egregious.

I don't think it helps to give in to cynicism--as a community we just have to continue cleaning up the mess others leave and trying to get the message across that this kind of shit is unacceptable. Putting in bathrooms at the major parking areas has to happen at some point too with the kind of traffic these crags see on a weekly basis.

A wonderful day, off work, no crazies about and it’s quiet, then I see it, a wad of tp in the woods. Initially I did not know what it was but the dogs seemed interested and I went to see and found a lump of paper that had been abandoned by some ass who could not be bothered to pick up after them selves or, at the very least, to bury it. This was below the 12 wall. To be fair they did take the time to write in chalk on a nearby rock that it was “peeâ€

Hey, I'm not against relieving oneself in the woods, if that is where nature happens to call. But, NOT in caves or under overhanging cliffs.

But really, how much would it weigh you down to carry a zippered plastic sandwich bag in your pack to cart out your toilet paper and used tampon, instead of leaving it for a wood rat to drag onto a ledge for an unsuspecting climber.

Obviously, we're "singing to the choir" here. The people posting on this thread are clearly part of the solution, not part of the problem.

Stephanie, Thanks for raising this issue. I am very interested in your other ideas. You always have good ones, and I'd like to adopt it, if you have success with it.

Was that recently, Dr. Bob? I'm sorry to hear about this. I definitely understand how frustrating that can be.

I have noticed that this problem seems worse at the Red than any other crag I have been to. Sure in Yosemite, you get "Euro-flowers" at every major pullout without a bathroom--but almost never up at the crags. Oh wait, except for every major bivy ledge on El Cap. Never mind.

Seriously people, Drink a 20 oz coffee and smoke about 3 cigs before you head out to the crag and SHIT before you climb!
