The Avalanche Lake Trail in Glacier National Park was closed for a few days last week after a man and a woman encountered a bear on the trail June 5.
The bear did no harm, but the woman apparently broke her arm after her husband pushed her away from the bruin and she fell.

Look up black bear attacks in north america. They apparently do sometimes treat people as prey and have attacked mountainbikers, runners, hikers that are not even aware of the bear until it is attacking them. I ran up on two black bears at Bear Creek on my mountain bike last year. They didn't attack me though. They were polite and went up the hillside.
Hauling a big ego up a route adds at least a full grade.
