eat a hamburger.
And on the third day, God created the Red River Gorge(by conjecture), and he saw that it was good.

By reading this article it doesn't sound to me that the victim was at any fault. I don't understand why everyone here is all pissed that the bear will be killed. Do you want to be mauled by bear known to attack humans? I do value the bears life, but not as much as I value human life.

If I'm walking through the woods I understand the risk of being attacked by a wild animal... as everyone should. This bear is more than likely a female protecting her young, as animals do this time of year. You'd think the government would spend it's resources more wisely by cracking down on humans that pose a risk to other humans, rather than shutting down half the gorge so a bunch of redneck fucks can kill the 'man-eating' black bear... I'd like to know how they're going to determine whether or not they killed the right bear. Did the victim provide a detailed sketch?

Life is life, whether it's a bear or human.

If they really wanna be fair, then they should find the bear, bite his leg, drag him around a bit and then let him go after.

so apparently the proper way to deal with a bear is to throw things at it. Did this guy know it was a black bear and assume it would be scared off by a can of bug spray? he might have tried backing away and following his dog

For anyone that's taken the time to read up on bear attacks it's pretty clear that this particular black bear was exhibiting predatory behavior. The unprovoked attack and relentless stalk are pretty classic behaviors for a black bear that's intent on eating someone. It's a damned good thing other hikers came to the rescue as the victim was about to be dragged off and killed.

Pretty weird when you think about it. The bear population is probably not very large in the area, and one of them attempts to be a man eater, certainly not unknown behavior, but not really common either. Let's just hope they find the right bear and eliminate it. Don't be too hard on the government officials, they're just trying to protect people who want to recreate in the gorge, not wipe out the bears. Besides, I don't know of anywhere in the U.S. where bears that prey on humans are tolerated, and this particular bear was about to eat that hiker. Better to get rid of it before it grabs someone's kid. The remaining bears will do just fine.

Remember, you don't want to be the one that feeds the bear.

So does anyone with bear knowledge have an idea why the bear was stopped by other people. I would think the bear would just eat them all.
