This is a slight diversion, but wouldn't it be great if rest stops or gas stations with ample land opened dog parks for those traveling? Of course, no one would clean up after their dogs, but it's a nice idea.TankAzz wrote:i'd also be game for a "dog friendly" campground--i.e., a place that had an area to let dogs roam free. it's nice not having to worry about leashing them, and lets them get some energy out.
Its not the dogs it is the owners
Yes Meadows, Not only that but I think our tax dollars should pay for an aviary at every rest stop so my parrot can get out of the car every now and then.
Well said Mr Cox.

I love that I can take my dog with me when I climb, and that Miguel's is so cool with it. However, I will state that in the past few years, the "crowd" at Miguel's has expanded in many ways...including inconsiderate "elitist climbers" who practically live there....and therefore think they can leave their dog off the leash even when they leave to go climbing...just to wander around. One in specific actually walked up to my tent and took a shit-- I was forced to clean it up just so no one thought it was my dog!! I think it's "lifers" like this, who take liberties and feel entitled, who give all dog owners a bad name! (And I too will make the disclaimer that it is obviously not ALL climbers at Miguel's or ALL the "lifers"...but there are at least two that I can picture in my head right now)
That being said...I also agree with a few above me who said that the douche-bag non-climbers who camp out at Miguel's b/c it's cheap, get wasted, and run around screaming until 3am are often WAY MORE annoying than even the most annoying and curious pooch! My dog goes to sleep when I go; I can't say that for the frat boys who forget where their tent is!

If you give a man a match, he'll be warm for a minute. If you set him on fire, he'll be warm for the rest of his life!
hey, my tax dollars already pay for a lot of stupid shit--i'd be willing to spring for whatever my share of the fence would be.
Fartspray, if you keep your parrot on a leash, i see no reason why it can't play in the dog park too...

Courtesy of Andrew: "I don't think you will damage your escort unless she trips because she is so strung out on blow. Most people just take them to the rest area."
I do take notice that they are "your" tax dollars and not ours that too me says a lot. My point is I don't want our tax dollars to pay for your "stupid shit" self interest.
Go play somewhere else with your dog.

Don't get me wrong...I like dogs. I had the priviledge of owning one of the best behaved and loyal pets in the world. His name is spike and he's a truley awesome canine. But.... I have also been bitten twice by climbers dogs. (more like a warning nip than a "break the skin" bite). I have noticed that by and large climbers dogs are as chaotic and uncontrolled as the climbers who own them. You can tell how someone is in their personal life by seeing how their dog acts. If the dog is controlled and calm, then the climber usually is too. An out of control dog usually means an out of control individual whose animal reflects the very chaos that it lives in everyday. Btw. anyone who doesn't like dogs is suspect from the start....+$00.02
