not past lives for me, past energy.
as a science guy you have to know that energy cannot be destroyed or created...but what is a sperm and egg??

Energy can not be created or destroyed. All equations of change are balanced by the 1st law of thermo. I am glad that we can agree about that. Many observations support this theory.anticlmber wrote:not past lives for me, past energy.

• This statement falls short of meeting your needs in this argument because, life processes (including processes that support cognition) depend on order. Life is not energy, but life relies on the 1st law to counter act the second law of thermodynamics: systems tend establish equilibria. Life can never be in thermal equilibrium with its surroundings; this is death. We are functions of an ordered process that uses the chemical energy in food stuffs ─►poop.
• Indeed as long as the computation is the same we could very well be platform independent; hypothetically our cognitive processes could be transfered to a very sophisticated computational device attached to sensors and a mechanical body. There might be a process by which the individual could be transfer to such a computational platform without the individual experiencing death.
IN REVIEW:
• Just because energy is not destroyed does not mean you are not destroyed. Why, because our existence are a vast series of ordered process at the molecular level.
• Once the ordered physical process that supports my cognition is destroyed means that I am destroyed also.
• Just because grandfather's pocket watch is in my possession does not mean it is keeping time. We are not the pocket watch (the stuff OR the energy) WE are the time keeping (the FUNCTION).
We are precious and fragile. Appreciate the fact that we flower and fade. Our time is fleeting and short. We need to live it like we want to and hopefully this includes doing more harm than good. More hugs and less petty bullshit. More love less war. More giving and less demanding.
[By the way AC I really respect the giving component of you]
• The universe's most popular state does not include me. I am just a little flash bulb bursting briefly at some middle school sporting event. Even the significance to me that I burst again at the world cup is very minimal. Why should it matter (to me or anyone else) that some small part or whole of me as an infinitesimally small component of the universe shines again?

If you are enlightened without evidence or without at least a stream of logic, you are delusional. If I were equally deluded I might suggest an alternative way for the workings of the universe. We would be left with absolutely no way to judge the relative merits of my hypothesis versus your hypothesis. Evidence and logical sequiturs are the only thing we have. By your own admission, it is at the petition for both or either where your arguments unravel.dhuff wrote:I know people want tangible evidence, but it is impossible to provide that. That's the whole point. Otherwise, we'd all be enlightened from the start and the world would never have become the clusterfuck that it presently is.
But I'm not arguing anything. It's not my job to convince you guys of anything. I'm really just trying to keep the discussion going so that as many people as possible will see the content. I was trying to be convincing like a year ago when I posted some stuff on here, but since then I've learned that any such efforts are futile. I know and understand why you're not going to suddenly understand what I'm talking about. And it's because you are completely convinced--not based on experience, but lack of experience--that there is nothing beyond that which we can perceive with our five senses and consciously comprehend. I, among many other people, have experienced such a reality, several times now. Over the past several months I've become a little better at tapping into it. So you really are in no place to call me delusional, but no hard feelings. I'm not really one to get offended by anything. I just hope that you're keeping an objective point of view, remaining open to other perspectives, and not just seeking to affirm your current beliefs.
